The Altar

¹³ ‘These are the measurements of the altar^(A) in units of length (each unit being the standard length plus eight centimetres):^[a](B) The gutter is 53 centimetres^[b] deep and 53 centimetres wide, with a rim of 27 centimetres^[c] round its edge. This is the base^[d] of the altar. ¹⁴ The distance from the gutter on the ground to the lower ledge is 1.1 metres,^[e] and the width of the ledge is 53 centimetres. There are 2.1 metres^[f] from the small ledge to the large ledge, whose width is also 53 centimetres. ¹⁵ The altar hearth^[g] is 2.1 metres high, and four horns^(C) project upwards from the hearth. ¹⁶ The hearth is square, 6.4 metres^[h] long by 6.4 metres wide.^{(D) 17} The ledge is 7.4 metres^[i] long by 7.4 metres wide, with four equal sides.^(E) The rim all round it is 27 centimetres,^[j] and its gutter is 53 centimetres all round it.
