³⁵ Then she became pregnant again and gave birth to another son. She said, “This time I will praise the Lord”; so she named him Judah.^[a] Then she stopped having children.

^19-21 The tribe of Judah: the clans of Shelah, Perez, Zerah, Hezron, and Hamul. (Two of Judah's sons, Er and Onan, had died in the land of Canaan.)

³ Judah had five sons in all. By his wife Bathshua, a Canaanite, he had three sons: Er, Onan, and Shelah. His oldest son, Er, was so evil that the Lord killed him. ⁴ By his daughter-in-law Tamar, Judah had two more sons, Perez and Zerah.

⁵ Perez had two sons, Hezron and Hamul. ⁶ His brother Zerah had five sons: Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and Darda.
