Covenant Circumcision

17 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him, saying, ‘I am God Almighty.^(A) Live^[a] in my presence and be blameless.^(B)

³⁰ ‘Therefore, this is the declaration of the Lord, the God of Israel: “I did say that your family and your forefather’s family would walk before me for ever.^(A) But now,” this is the Lord’s declaration, “no longer! For those who honour me I will honour,^(B) but those who despise me will be disgraced.^(C)

⁴ and so that the Lord will fulfil his promise that he made to me: “If your sons take care to walk faithfully before me with all their heart and all their soul,^(A) you will never fail to have a man on the throne of Israel.”^(B)

²³ He said:

³ ‘Please, Lord, remember^(A) how I have walked before you faithfully and wholeheartedly and have done what pleases you.’^[a](B) And Hezekiah wept bitterly.^(C)
