²⁸ “Your name will no longer be Jacob,”^(A) he said. “It will be Israel^[a] because you have struggled with God^(B) and with men and have prevailed.”

¹⁰ God said to him, “Your name is Jacob; you will no longer be named Jacob, but your name will be Israel.”^(A) So he named him Israel.

³⁴ They are still observing the former practices to this day. None of them fear the Lord or observe the statutes and ordinances, the law and commandments that the Lord had commanded the descendants of Jacob, whom he had given the name Israel.^(A)
