⁸ He said, “Surely they are my people,^(A)
    children who will be true to me”;
    and so he became their Savior.^(B)
9 In all their distress he too was distressed,
    and the angel^(C) of his presence^(D) saved them.^[a]
In his love and mercy he redeemed^(E) them;
    he lifted them up and carried^(F) them
    all the days of old.^(G)
10 Yet they rebelled^(H)
    and grieved his Holy Spirit.^(I)
So he turned and became their enemy^(J)
    and he himself fought^(K) against them.
