Jeremiah 8:5-7
Amplified Bible, Classic Edition
5 Why then is this people of Jerusalem turned away with a perpetual turning away [from Me]? They hold fast to [a]deceit (idolatry); they refuse to repent and return [to God].
6 I have listened and heard, but they have not spoken aright; no man repents of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? Everyone turns to his [individual] course, as the horse rushes like a torrent into battle.
7 [Even the migratory birds are punctual to their seasons.] Yes, the stork [excelling in the great height of her flight] in the heavens knows her appointed times [of migration], and the turtledove, the swallow, and the crane observe the time of their return. But My people do not know the law of the Lord [which the lower animals instinctively recognize in so far as it applies to them].

- Jeremiah 8:5 Idolatry is deceitful and false because in their idolatry men and women worship what is false, and it merely deludes the worshipers and causes them to believe a lie.
Jeremiah 8:5-7
New International Version
5 Why then have these people turned away?
Why does Jerusalem always turn away?
They cling to deceit;(A)
they refuse to return.(B)
6 I have listened(C) attentively,
but they do not say what is right.
None of them repent(D) of their wickedness,
saying, “What have I done?”
Each pursues their own course(E)
like a horse charging into battle.
7 Even the stork in the sky
knows her appointed seasons,
and the dove, the swift and the thrush
observe the time of their migration.
But my people do not know(F)
the requirements of the Lord.
