⁴ His children are far from safety.
They are crushed at the city gate,^(A)
with no one to rescue them.

² or they^[a] will tear me like a lion,
ripping me apart with no one to rescue me.^(A)

¹¹ saying, ‘God has abandoned him;
chase him and catch him,
for there is no one to rescue him.’^(A)

²⁹ Their roaring is like a lion’s;^(A)
they roar like young lions;^(B)
they growl and seize their prey
and carry it off,
and no one can rescue it.

²² But this is a people plundered and looted,
all of them trapped in holes
or imprisoned in dungeons.
They have become plunder^(A)
with no one to rescue them
and loot, with no one saying, ‘Give it back! ’

¹⁴ For I am like a lion to Ephraim^(A)
and like a young lion to the house of Judah.
Yes, I will tear them to pieces and depart.^(B)
I will carry them off,
and no one can rescue them.^(C)

⁸ Then the remnant of Jacob
will be among the nations, among many peoples,
like a lion among animals of the forest,^(A)
like a young lion among flocks of sheep,
which tramples^(B) and tears^(C) as it passes through,
and there is no one to rescue them.^(D)
