Joel 1
Complete Jewish Bible
1 The word of Adonai that came to Yo’el the son of P’tu’el:
2 “Hear this, you leaders!
Listen, all who live in the land!
Has anything like this ever happened in your days,
or in your ancestors’ days?
3 Tell your children about it,
and have them tell it to theirs,
and have them tell the next generation.
4 What the cutter-worms left, the locusts ate;
what the locusts left, the grasshoppers ate;
what the grasshoppers left, the shearer-worms ate.
5 Wake up, drunkards, and weep!
wail, all you who drink wine,
because the juice of the grape
will be withheld from your mouth.
6 For a mighty and numberless nation
has invaded my land.
His teeth are lion’s teeth;
his fangs are those of a lioness.
7 He has reduced my vines to waste,
my fig trees to splinters —
he plucked them bare, stripped their bark
and left their branches white.”
8 Lament like a virgin wearing sackcloth
for the husband of her youth!
9 Grain offering and drink offering are cut off
from the house of Adonai.
The cohanim are mourning,
those who are serving Adonai.
10 The fields are ruined, the ground is grieving;
for the grain is ruined, the new wine dried up,
and the olive oil is wretched.
11 Despair, you farmers; lament, vinedressers,
over the wheat and the barley —
the harvest from the fields is lost.
12 The vines have withered, the fig trees wilted,
also the pomegranate, date-palm and apple tree —
all the trees in the fields have withered,
and the people’s joy has withered away.
13 Cohanim, put on sackcloth, and weep!
Wail, you who serve at the altar!
Come, lie in sackcloth all night long,
you who serve my God!
For the grain offering and drink offering are withheld
from the house of your God.
14 Proclaim a holy fast,
call for a solemn assembly,
gather the leaders
and all who live in the land
to the house of Adonai your God,
and cry out to Adonai,
15 “Oh no! The Day!
The Day of Adonai is upon us!
As destruction from Shaddai
it is coming!
16 The food is cut off before our very eyes,
also joy and gladness from the house of our God.
17 The seed-grain is rotting in its furrows;
the granaries are deserted, the barns in ruins;
because the grain has withered.
18 How the animals groan!
The herds of cattle are perplexed,
because they have no pasture.
The flocks of sheep bear the punishment, too.
19 Adonai, I cry out to you!
For the fire has consumed the pastures in the desert,
and the flame set ablaze all the trees in the fields.
20 Even the wild animals
come to you, panting,
because the streambeds have dried up,
and fire has consumed the pastures in the desert.”

2 Чуйте това, старци, и внимавайте, всички жители на тая земя: бивало ли е такова нещо във ваши дни или в дните на бащите ви?
3 (A)Разказвайте за него на децата си; а децата ви да разказват на децата си, а техните деца – на следния род:
4 (B)каквото остана от гъсеници, изядоха скакалци; каквото остана от скакалци, изядоха червеи; а що остана от червеи, доядоха бръмбари.
5 Събудете се, пияници, плачете и ридайте всички, които пиете вино, за гроздовия сок, защото е отнет от устата ви!
6 (C)Защото дойде против земята ми народ силен и безброен; зъбите му – зъби лъвски, и челюстите му – като на лъвица.
7 (D)Опустоши той лозата ми, и смоковницата ми изпочупи, обели я до голо и хвърли; станаха бели клоните ѝ.
8 Плачи, както плаче млада жена, препасана с вретище, за мъжа на младините си!
9 (E)Прекрати се хлебен принос и възлияние в дома Господен; плачат свещениците, служители Господни.
10 (F)Опустошено е полето, тъгува земята, защото е изтребено житото; изсъхна гроздов сок, повяхна маслина.
11 (G)Червете се от срам, земеделци, ридайте, лозари, за пшеницата и ечемика, защото жътвата по нивите загина,
12 (H)лоза изсъхна, смоковница повяхна; нарът, палмата и ябълката – всички дървета по полето изсъхнаха; поради това и веселбата у синовете човешки изчезна.
13 Препашете се с вретище и плачете, свещеници! ридайте, служители на олтара! влезте и нощувайте във вретища, служители на моя Бог! защото няма вече в дома на вашия Бог хлебен принос и възлияние.
14 (I)Назначете пост, обявете тържествено събрание, свикайте старците и всички жители на тая страна в дома на Господа, вашия Бог – и викайте към Господа.
15 (J)О, какъв ден! защото денят Господен е близо: като опустошение от Всемоидния ще дойде той.
16 (K)Не пред наши очи ли се отнима храната, и от дома на нашия Бог – веселба и радост?
17 Изгниха зърна под буците си, запустяха житници, срутени са клетове, защото няма вече жито.
18 (L)Как стене добитъкът, тъжно ходят стада волове, защото няма за тях паша; мъчат се и стада овци.
19 Към Тебе, Господи, викам, защото огън погълна злачните пасбища на пустинята, и пламък опърли всички дървета на полето.
20 (M)Дори и животните на полето викат към Тебе, защото пресъхнаха водните потоци, и огън изтреби пасбищата в пустинята.

1 The word of the Lord that came to Joel the son of Pethuel.
2 Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?
3 Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation.
4 That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten.
5 Awake, ye drunkards, and weep; and howl, all ye drinkers of wine, because of the new wine; for it is cut off from your mouth.
6 For a nation is come up upon my land, strong, and without number, whose teeth are the teeth of a lion, and he hath the cheek teeth of a great lion.
7 He hath laid my vine waste, and barked my fig tree: he hath made it clean bare, and cast it away; the branches thereof are made white.
8 Lament like a virgin girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.
9 The meat offering and the drink offering is cut off from the house of the Lord; the priests, the Lord's ministers, mourn.
10 The field is wasted, the land mourneth; for the corn is wasted: the new wine is dried up, the oil languisheth.
11 Be ye ashamed, O ye husbandmen; howl, O ye vinedressers, for the wheat and for the barley; because the harvest of the field is perished.
12 The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men.
13 Gird yourselves, and lament, ye priests: howl, ye ministers of the altar: come, lie all night in sackcloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meat offering and the drink offering is withholden from the house of your God.
14 Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the Lord your God, and cry unto the Lord,
15 Alas for the day! for the day of the Lord is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.
16 Is not the meat cut off before our eyes, yea, joy and gladness from the house of our God?
17 The seed is rotten under their clods, the garners are laid desolate, the barns are broken down; for the corn is withered.
18 How do the beasts groan! the herds of cattle are perplexed, because they have no pasture; yea, the flocks of sheep are made desolate.
19 O Lord, to thee will I cry: for the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness, and the flame hath burned all the trees of the field.
20 The beasts of the field cry also unto thee: for the rivers of waters are dried up, and the fire hath devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
