¹⁸ ‘I’m not speaking about all of you; I know those I have chosen.^(A) But the Scripture^(B) must be fulfilled:^(C) The one who eats my bread^[a] has raised his heel against me.^[b](D)

²⁵ But this happened so that the statement written in their law might be fulfilled:^(A) They hated me for no reason.^[a](B)

¹² While I was with them, I was protecting them by your name that you have given me. I guarded^(A) them and not one of them is lost, except the son of destruction,^[a] so that the Scripture^(B) may be fulfilled.^(C)

The Finished Work of Jesus

²⁸ After^(A) this, when Jesus knew that everything was now finished^(B) that the Scripture might be fulfilled, he said, ‘I’m thirsty.’^(C)

³⁶ For these things happened so that the Scripture would be fulfilled:^(A) Not one of his bones will be broken.^[a](B)

¹⁶ ‘Brothers and sisters, it was necessary that the Scripture be fulfilled that the Holy Spirit, through the mouth of David, foretold about Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus.^(A)

²³ and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,^[a](A) and he was called God’s friend.^(B)
