John 7:14-44
Revised Geneva Translation
Now, when half the feast was done, Jesus went up into the Temple and taught.
And the Jews marveled, saying, “How does this Man know the Scriptures, seeing that He never learned!?”
Jesus answered them, and said, “My doctrine is not Mine, but His Who sent Me.
“If anyone will do His will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be from God, or whether I speak from myself.
“Whoever speaks from himself, seeks his own glory. But whoever seeks the glory of the One who sent him, he is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
“Did not Moses give you a Law, and yet none of you keeps the Law? Why do you seek to kill Me?”
The people answered, and said, “You have a demon! Who seeks to kill You?”
Jesus answered, and said to them, “I have done one work, and you all marvel.
“Therefore, Moses gave circumcision to you - not because it is of Moses, but of the Fathers - and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath.
If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath so that the Law of Moses should not be broken, are you angry with Me because I have made a man entirely whole on the Sabbath?
“Do not judge according to the appearance. But, judge righteous judgment.”
Then some of them of Jerusalem said, “Is this not He Whom they seek to kill?
“And behold, He speaks openly, and they say nothing to Him. Do the rulers really know that this is truly the Christ?
“However, we know from where this Man is. But when the Christ comes, no one shall know from where He is.”
Then Jesus cried in the Temple as He taught, saying, “You both know Me and know from where I am! Yet I have not come of Myself! And He who sent Me is true (Whom you do not know)!
“But I know Him! For I am of Him, and He has sent Me!”
Then they sought to take Him, but no one laid hands on Him, because His hour had not yet come.
Now many of the people believed in Him, and said, “When the Christ comes, will He do any more miracles than this Man has done?”
The Pharisees heard that the people murmured these things about Him. And the Pharisees, and chief priests, sent officers to take Him.
Then Jesus said to them, “I am still with you a little while, and then I go to the One who sent Me.
“You shall seek Me and shall not find Me. And where I am, you cannot come.”
Then the Jews said among themselves, “Where will He go, that we shall not find Him? Will He go to those who are dispersed among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?
“What saying is this that He said, ‘You shall seek Me, and shall not find Me’? And, ‘Where I am, you cannot come’?”
Now, on the last day (the great day) of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink!
“The one who believes in Me, as says the Scripture, ‘Out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water’!”
(He spoke this about the Spirit, Whom those who believed in Him were about to receive. For the Holy Ghost was not yet given because Jesus was not yet glorified.)
So, many of the people, when they heard this saying, said, “Truly this is the Prophet!”
Others said, “This is the Christ!” And some said, “But shall the Christ come out of Galilee?
“Does not the Scripture say that the Christ shall come from the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?
So there was dissension among the people because of Him.
And some of them would have taken Him, but no one laid hands on Him.
