¹⁴ The Lord’s anger burned against Israel, and he handed them over to marauders who raided them. He sold^(A) them to the enemies around them, and they could no longer resist their enemies. ¹⁵ Whenever the Israelites went out, the Lord was against them^(B) and brought disaster on them, just as he had promised and sworn to them.^(C) So they suffered greatly.

¹⁶ The Lord raised up^(D) judges, who saved them from the power of their marauders,

⁹ But they forgot the Lord their God, so he handed them over to Sisera^(A) commander of the army of Hazor, to the Philistines, and to the king of Moab.^(B) These enemies fought against them. ¹⁰ Then they cried out to the Lord and said, “We have sinned, for we abandoned the Lord and worshipped the Baals and the Ashtoreths. Now rescue us from the power of our enemies,^(C) and we will serve you.” ¹¹ So the Lord sent Jerubbaal,^(D) Barak,^[a](E) Jephthah,^(F) and Samuel.^(G) He rescued you from the power of the enemies around you, and you lived securely.
