Judges 9:1-3

9 Then Abimelech, the son of Jerubbaal, went to Shechem, to his mother’s brethren, and communed with them and with all the family and House of his mother’s father, saying,

² “Please say, in the audience of all the men of Shechem, ‘Which is better for you: that all the sons of Jerubbaal (seventy people) reign over you, or that one reigns over you?’ Remember, also, that I am your flesh and bone.”

³ Then his mother’s brethren spoke all these words about him in the audience of all the men of Shechem; and their hearts were moved to follow Abimelech. For they said, “He is our brother.”
