2 In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus^(A) that the whole empire^[a] should be registered.

³² Although they know God’s just sentence—that those who practice such things deserve to die^[a](A)—they not only do them, but even applaud^[b](B) others who practice them.

¹⁵ he made of no effect the law consisting of commands and expressed in regulations, so that he might create^(A) in himself one^(B) new man from the two, resulting in peace.
