¹⁵ Didn’t God make them one and give them a portion of spirit? What is the one seeking?^[a] Godly offspring. So watch yourselves carefully,^[b](A) so that no one acts treacherously against the wife of his^[c] youth.

⁵ and he also said, “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two will become one flesh”?^(A)[a]

⁷ For this reason a man will leave^(A) his father and mother^{[a] 8} and the two will become one flesh.^(B)[b] So they are no longer two, but one flesh.

¹⁶ Don’t you know that anyone joined to a prostitute is one body with her? For Scripture says, The two will become one flesh.^[a](A)
