See, I am sending my messenger^(C) ahead of you;
he will prepare your way.^[b]^[c] ^(D)
³A voice of one crying out in the wilderness:^(E)
Prepare the way for the Lord;^(F)
make his paths straight!^[d]^(G)

⁴John came baptizing^[e]^(H) in the wilderness^(I) and proclaiming a baptism of repentance^(J) for the forgiveness^(K) of sins.^(L)
