The Burial of Jesus

⁴² When^(A) it was already evening, because it was the day of preparation (that is, the day before the Sabbath),

⁵⁴ It was the preparation day, and the Sabbath was about to begin.^[a]

¹⁴ It was the preparation day for the Passover, and it was about noon.^[a] Then he told the Jews, ‘Here is your king! ’

³¹ Since it was the preparation day,^(A) the Jews did not want the bodies^(B) to remain on the cross^(C) on the Sabbath^(D) (for that Sabbath was a special^[a] day). They requested that Pilate have the men’s legs broken and that their bodies be taken away.^(E)

⁴² They placed Jesus there because of the Jewish day of preparation and since the tomb was nearby.
