⁸ Straight away^(A) Jesus perceived in his spirit^(B) that they were thinking like this within themselves and said to them, ‘Why are you thinking these things in your hearts?

⁴⁸ ‘How do you know me? ’ Nathanael asked.

‘Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you,’ Jesus answered.

²⁴ Jesus, however, would not entrust himself to them, since he knew them all ²⁵ and because he did not need anyone to testify about man; for he himself knew what was in man.^(A)

⁶⁴ But there are some among you who don’t believe.’ (For Jesus knew from the beginning^(A) those who did not^[a] believe and the one who would betray^(B) him.)

¹⁷ He asked him the third time, ‘Simon, son of John, do you love^(A) me? ’

Peter was grieved^(B) that he asked him the third time, ‘Do you love me? ’ He said, ‘Lord, you know everything;^(C) you know that I love you.’

‘Feed^(D) my sheep,’ Jesus said.
