Matthew 22-24

A Story About a Wedding Feast
22 Jesus again used stories to teach them. He said, 2 “The kingdom of heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding feast for his son. 3 The king invited some people to the feast. When the feast was ready, the king sent his servants to tell the people, but they refused to come.
4 “Then the king sent other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who have been invited that my feast is ready. I have killed my best bulls and calves for the dinner, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast.’
5 “But the people refused to listen to the servants and left to do other things. One went to work in his field, and another went to his business. 6 Some of the other people grabbed the servants, beat them, and killed them. 7 The king was furious and sent his army to kill the murderers and burn their city.
8 “After that, the king said to his servants, ‘The wedding feast is ready. I invited those people, but they were not worthy to come. 9 So go to the street corners and invite everyone you find to come to my feast.’ 10 So the servants went into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, both good and bad. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.
11 “When the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man who was not dressed for a wedding. 12 The king said, ‘Friend, how were you allowed to come in here? You are not dressed for a wedding.’ But the man said nothing. 13 So the king told some servants, ‘Tie this man’s hands and feet. Throw him out into the darkness, where people will cry and grind their teeth with pain.’
14 “Yes, many are invited, but only a few are chosen.”
Is It Right to Pay Taxes or Not?
15 Then the Pharisees left that place and made plans to trap Jesus in saying something wrong. 16 They sent some of their own followers and some people from the group called Herodians.[a] They said, “Teacher, we know that you are an honest man and that you teach the truth about God’s way. You are not afraid of what other people think about you, because you pay no attention to who they are. 17 So tell us what you think. Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”
18 But knowing that these leaders were trying to trick him, Jesus said, “You hypocrites! Why are you trying to trap me? 19 Show me a coin used for paying the tax.” So the men showed him a coin.[b] 20 Then Jesus asked, “Whose image and name are on the coin?”
21 The men answered, “Caesar’s.”
Then Jesus said to them, “Give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and give to God the things that are God’s.”
22 When the men heard what Jesus said, they were amazed and left him and went away.
Some Sadducees Try to Trick Jesus
23 That same day some Sadducees came to Jesus and asked him a question. (Sadducees believed that people would not rise from the dead.) 24 They said, “Teacher, Moses said if a married man dies without having children, his brother must marry the widow and have children for him. 25 Once there were seven brothers among us. The first one married and died. Since he had no children, his brother married the widow. 26 Then the second brother also died. The same thing happened to the third brother and all the other brothers. 27 Finally, the woman died. 28 Since all seven men had married her, when people rise from the dead, whose wife will she be?”
29 Jesus answered, “You don’t understand, because you don’t know what the Scriptures say, and you don’t know about the power of God. 30 When people rise from the dead, they will not marry, nor will they be given to someone to marry. They will be like the angels in heaven. 31 Surely you have read what God said to you about rising from the dead. 32 God said, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’[c] God is the God of the living, not the dead.”
33 When the people heard this, they were amazed at Jesus’ teaching.
The Most Important Command
34 When the Pharisees learned that the Sadducees could not argue with Jesus’ answers to them, the Pharisees met together. 35 One Pharisee, who was an expert on the law of Moses, asked Jesus this question to test him: 36 “Teacher, which command in the law is the most important?”
37 Jesus answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’[d] 38 This is the first and most important command. 39 And the second command is like the first: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’[e] 40 All the law and the writings of the prophets depend on these two commands.”
Jesus Questions the Pharisees
41 While the Pharisees were together, Jesus asked them, 42 “What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?”
They answered, “The Christ is the Son of David.”
43 Then Jesus said to them, “Then why did David call him ‘Lord’? David, speaking by the power of the Holy Spirit, said,
44 ‘The Lord said to my Lord,
“Sit by me at my right side,
until I put your enemies under your control.”’ Psalm 110:1
45 David calls the Christ ‘Lord,’ so how can the Christ be his son?”
46 None of the Pharisees could answer Jesus’ question, and after that day no one was brave enough to ask him any more questions.
Jesus Accuses Some Leaders
23 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his followers, 2 “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees have the authority to tell you what the law of Moses says. 3 So you should obey and follow whatever they tell you, but their lives are not good examples for you to follow. They tell you to do things, but they themselves don’t do them. 4 They make strict rules and try to force people to obey them, but they are unwilling to help those who struggle under the weight of their rules.
5 “They do good things so that other people will see them. They enlarge the little boxes[f] holding Scriptures that they wear, and they make their special prayer clothes very long. 6 Those Pharisees and teachers of the law love to have the most important seats at feasts and in the synagogues. 7 They love people to greet them with respect in the marketplaces, and they love to have people call them ‘Teacher.’
8 “But you must not be called ‘Teacher,’ because you have only one Teacher, and you are all brothers and sisters together. 9 And don’t call any person on earth ‘Father,’ because you have one Father, who is in heaven. 10 And you should not be called ‘Master,’ because you have only one Master, the Christ. 11 Whoever is your servant is the greatest among you. 12 Whoever makes himself great will be made humble. Whoever makes himself humble will be made great.
13 “How terrible for you, teachers of the law and Pharisees! You are hypocrites! You close the door for people to enter the kingdom of heaven. You yourselves don’t enter, and you stop others who are trying to enter. [ 14 How terrible for you, teachers of the law and Pharisees. You are hypocrites. You take away widows’ houses, and you say long prayers so that people will notice you. So you will have a worse punishment.][g]
15 “How terrible for you, teachers of the law and Pharisees! You are hypocrites! You travel across land and sea to find one person who will change to your ways. When you find that person, you make him more fit for hell than you are.
16 “How terrible for you! You guide the people, but you are blind. You say, ‘If people swear by the Temple when they make a promise, that means nothing. But if they swear by the gold that is in the Temple, they must keep that promise.’ 17 You are blind fools! Which is greater: the gold or the Temple that makes that gold holy? 18 And you say, ‘If people swear by the altar when they make a promise, that means nothing. But if they swear by the gift on the altar, they must keep that promise.’ 19 You are blind! Which is greater: the gift or the altar that makes the gift holy? 20 The person who swears by the altar is really using the altar and also everything on the altar. 21 And the person who swears by the Temple is really using the Temple and also everything in the Temple. 22 The person who swears by heaven is also using God’s throne and the One who sits on that throne.
23 “How terrible for you, teachers of the law and Pharisees! You are hypocrites! You give to God one-tenth of everything you earn—even your mint, dill, and cumin.[h] But you don’t obey the really important teachings of the law—justice, mercy, and being loyal. These are the things you should do, as well as those other things. 24 You guide the people, but you are blind! You are like a person who picks a fly out of a drink and then swallows a camel![i]
25 “How terrible for you, teachers of the law and Pharisees! You are hypocrites! You wash the outside of your cups and dishes, but inside they are full of things you got by cheating others and by pleasing only yourselves. 26 Pharisees, you are blind! First make the inside of the cup clean, and then the outside of the cup can be truly clean.
27 “How terrible for you, teachers of the law and Pharisees! You are hypocrites! You are like tombs that are painted white. Outside, those tombs look fine, but inside, they are full of the bones of dead people and all kinds of unclean things. 28 It is the same with you. People look at you and think you are good, but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and evil.
29 “How terrible for you, teachers of the law and Pharisees! You are hypocrites! You build tombs for the prophets, and you show honor to the graves of those who lived good lives. 30 You say, ‘If we had lived during the time of our ancestors, we would not have helped them kill the prophets.’ 31 But you give proof that you are descendants of those who murdered the prophets. 32 And you will complete the sin that your ancestors started.
33 “You are snakes! A family of poisonous snakes! How are you going to escape God’s judgment? 34 So I tell you this: I am sending to you prophets and wise men and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify. Some of them you will beat in your synagogues and chase from town to town. 35 So you will be guilty for the death of all the good people who have been killed on earth—from the murder of that good man Abel to the murder of Zechariah[j] son of Berakiah, whom you murdered between the Temple and the altar. 36 I tell you the truth, all of these things will happen to you people who are living now.
Jesus Feels Sorry for Jerusalem
37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem! You kill the prophets and stone to death those who are sent to you. Many times I wanted to gather your people as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you did not let me. 38 Now your house will be left completely empty. 39 I tell you, you will not see me again until that time when you will say, ‘God bless the One who comes in the name of the Lord.’”[k]
The Temple Will Be Destroyed
24 As Jesus left the Temple and was walking away, his followers came up to show him the Temple’s buildings. 2 Jesus asked, “Do you see all these buildings? I tell you the truth, not one stone will be left on another. Every stone will be thrown down to the ground.”
3 Later, as Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, his followers came to be alone with him. They said, “Tell us, when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that it is time for you to come again and for this age to end?”
4 Jesus answered, “Be careful that no one fools you. 5 Many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will fool many people. 6 You will hear about wars and stories of wars that are coming, but don’t be afraid. These things must happen before the end comes. 7 Nations will fight against other nations; kingdoms will fight against other kingdoms. There will be times when there is no food for people to eat, and there will be earthquakes in different places. 8 These things are like the first pains when something new is about to be born.
9 “Then people will arrest you, hand you over to be hurt, and kill you. They will hate you because you believe in me. 10 At that time, many will lose their faith, and they will turn against each other and hate each other. 11 Many false prophets will come and cause many people to believe lies. 12 There will be more and more evil in the world, so most people will stop showing their love for each other. 13 But those people who keep their faith until the end will be saved. 14 The Good News about God’s kingdom will be preached in all the world, to every nation. Then the end will come.
15 “Daniel the prophet spoke about ‘a blasphemous object that brings destruction.’[l] You will see this standing in the holy place.” (You who read this should understand what it means.) 16 “At that time, the people in Judea should run away to the mountains. 17 If people are on the roofs[m] of their houses, they must not go down to get anything out of their houses. 18 If people are in the fields, they must not go back to get their coats. 19 At that time, how terrible it will be for women who are pregnant or have nursing babies! 20 Pray that it will not be winter or a Sabbath day when these things happen and you have to run away, 21 because at that time there will be much trouble. There will be more trouble than there has ever been since the beginning of the world until now, and nothing as bad will ever happen again. 22 God has decided to make that terrible time short. Otherwise, no one would go on living. But God will make that time short to help the people he has chosen. 23 At that time, someone might say to you, ‘Look, there is the Christ!’ Or another person might say, ‘There he is!’ But don’t believe them. 24 False Christs and false prophets will come and perform great wonders and miracles. They will try to fool even the people God has chosen, if that is possible. 25 Now I have warned you about this before it happens.
26 “If people tell you, ‘The Christ is in the desert,’ don’t go there. If they say, ‘The Christ is in the inner room,’ don’t believe it. 27 When the Son of Man comes, he will be seen by everyone, like lightning flashing from the east to the west. 28 Wherever the dead body is, there the vultures will gather.
29 “Soon after the trouble of those days,
‘the sun will grow dark,
and the moon will not give its light.
The stars will fall from the sky.
And the powers of the heavens will be shaken.’ Isaiah 13:10; 34:4
30 “At that time, the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky. Then all the peoples of the world will cry. They will see the Son of Man coming on clouds in the sky with great power and glory. 31 He will use a loud trumpet to send his angels all around the earth, and they will gather his chosen people from every part of the world.
32 “Learn a lesson from the fig tree: When its branches become green and soft and new leaves appear, you know summer is near. 33 In the same way, when you see all these things happening, you will know that the time is near, ready to come. 34 I tell you the truth, all these things will happen while the people of this time are still living. 35 Earth and sky will be destroyed, but the words I have said will never be destroyed.
When Will Jesus Come Again?
36 “No one knows when that day or time will be, not the angels in heaven, not even the Son.[n] Only the Father knows. 37 When the Son of Man comes, it will be like what happened during Noah’s time. 38 In those days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving their children to be married, until the day Noah entered the boat. 39 They knew nothing about what was happening until the flood came and destroyed them. It will be the same when the Son of Man comes. 40 Two men will be in the field. One will be taken, and the other will be left. 41 Two women will be grinding grain with a mill.[o] One will be taken, and the other will be left.
42 “So always be ready, because you don’t know the day your Lord will come. 43 Remember this: If the owner of the house knew what time of night a thief was coming, the owner would watch and not let the thief break in. 44 So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at a time you don’t expect him.
45 “Who is the wise and loyal servant that the master trusts to give the other servants their food at the right time? 46 When the master comes and finds the servant doing his work, the servant will be blessed. 47 I tell you the truth, the master will choose that servant to take care of everything he owns. 48 But suppose that evil servant thinks to himself, ‘My master will not come back soon,’ 49 and he begins to beat the other servants and eat and get drunk with others like him? 50 The master will come when that servant is not ready and is not expecting him. 51 Then the master will cut him in pieces and send him away to be with the hypocrites, where people will cry and grind their teeth with pain.

Ang Pagbabayad ng Buwis(C)
15 Umalis ang mga Pariseo at nag-usap-usap kung paano nila mahuhuli si Jesus sa kanyang pananalita. 16 Kaya pinapunta nila kay Jesus ang ilan sa kanilang mga alagad kasama ng ilang tagasunod ni Herodes. Sinabi ng mga sugo, “Guro, nalalaman naming kayo'y tapat at itinuturo ninyo nang buong katotohanan ang ibig ng Diyos na gawin ng mga tao. Wala kayong itinatangi sapagkat patas ang pagtingin ninyo sa mga tao. 17 Ano po ang palagay ninyo? Naaayon ba sa Kautusan na magbayad ng buwis sa Emperador, o hindi?”
18 Alam ni Jesus ang kanilang masamang layunin kaya't sinabi niya, “Kayong mga mapagkunwari! Bakit binibitag ninyo ako? 19 Ipakita ninyo sa akin ang isang salaping pambayad sa buwis.”
At ipinakita nga nila ang isang salaping pilak. 20 “Kaninong larawan at pangalan ang nakaukit diyan?” tanong ni Jesus.
21 “Sa Emperador po,” tugon nila.
Kaya't sinabi niya sa kanila, “Kung gayon, ibigay ninyo sa Emperador ang para sa kanya, at sa Diyos ang para sa Diyos.”
22 Namangha sila nang marinig ito, at sila'y umalis.
Tungkol sa Muling Pagkabuhay(D)
23 Nang(E) araw ding iyon, may lumapit kay Jesus na ilang Saduseo. Ang mga ito ay hindi naniniwalang muling mabubuhay ang mga patay. 24 Sinabi(F) nila, “Guro, itinuro po ni Moises na kung mamatay na walang anak ang isang lalaki, ang kanyang kapatid ay dapat pakasal sa nabiyuda upang magkaanak sila para sa namatay. 25 Noon po'y may pitong magkakapatid na lalaki rito sa amin. Nag-asawa ang panganay at namatay siyang walang anak, kaya't ang kanyang asawa ay pinakasalan ng kanyang kapatid. 26 Gayundin po ang nangyari sa pangalawa, sa pangatlo, hanggang sa pampito. 27 Pagkamatay nilang lahat, namatay naman ang babae. 28 Ngayon, sino po sa pito ang magiging asawa niya sa muling pagkabuhay, yamang siya'y napangasawa nilang lahat?”
29 Sumagot si Jesus, “Maling-mali kayo, palibhasa'y hindi ninyo nauunawaan ang mga Kasulatan ni ang kapangyarihan ng Diyos. 30 Sa(G) muling pagkabuhay, ang mga tao'y hindi na mag-aasawa; sila ay magiging tulad ng mga anghel sa langit. 31 Tungkol naman sa muling pagkabuhay ng mga patay, hindi ba ninyo nabasa sa Kasulatan ang sinabi sa inyo ng Diyos? Sabi niya, 32 ‘Ako(H) ang Diyos ni Abraham, Diyos ni Isaac, at Diyos ni Jacob.’ Ang Diyos ay hindi Diyos ng mga patay, kundi ng mga buháy.”
33 Nang marinig ito ng mga tao, namangha sila sa kanyang katuruan.
Ang Pinakamahalagang Utos(I)
34 Nagtipun-tipon ang mga Pariseo nang mabalitaan nilang napatahimik ni Jesus ang mga Saduseo. 35 Isa(J) sa kanila, na dalubhasa sa Kautusan, ang nagtanong kay Jesus upang subukin ito. 36 “Guro, alin po ang pinakamahalagang utos sa Kautusan?” tanong niya.
37 Sumagot(K) si Jesus, “Ibigin mo ang Panginoon mong Diyos nang buong puso mo, buong kaluluwa mo, at buong pag-iisip mo. 38 Ito ang pinakamahalagang utos. 39 Ito(L) naman ang pangalawa: Ibigin mo ang iyong kapwa gaya ng pag-ibig mo sa iyong sarili. 40 Sa dalawang utos na ito nakasalalay ang buong Kautusan ni Moises at ang katuruan ng mga propeta.”

41 Tinanong naman ni Jesus ang mga Pariseong nagkakatipon doon. 42 “Ano ang pagkakilala ninyo tungkol sa Cristo? Kanino siyang anak?”
“Kay David po,” sagot nila.
43 Sabi ni Jesus, “Kung gayon, bakit siya tinawag ni David na ‘Panginoon’ noong pinapatnubayan siya ng Espiritu? Ganito ang kanyang sinabi,
44 ‘Sinabi(N) ng Panginoon sa aking Panginoon:
Maupo ka sa kanan ko,
hanggang lubusan kong mapasuko sa iyo ang mga kaaway mo.’
45 Ngayon, kung si David ay tumawag sa kanya ng ‘Panginoon,’ paanong masasabing anak ni David ang Cristo?” 46 Isa man sa kanila'y walang nakasagot, at mula noo'y wala nang nangahas magtanong sa kanya.
Ang Katuruan tungkol sa Pagpapakumbaba(O)
23 Pagkatapos ay sinabi ni Jesus sa mga tao at sa kanyang mga alagad, 2 “Ang mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan at ang mga Pariseo ang kinikilalang tagapagpaliwanag ng Kautusan ni Moises.[a] 3 Kaya't gawin ninyo ang itinuturo nila at sundin ang kanilang iniuutos, ngunit huwag ninyong tularan ang kanilang ginagawa sapagkat hindi nila isinasagawa ang kanilang ipinapangaral. 4 Nagpapataw sila ng mabibigat na pasanin sa mga tao, ngunit ni daliri ay ayaw nilang igalaw upang tumulong sa pagpasan ng mga iyon. 5 Pawang(P) pakitang-tao ang kanilang mga gawa. Nilalaparan nila ang mga lalagyan ng talata sa kanilang noo at braso, at hinahabaan ang palawit sa laylayan ng kanilang mga damit.[b] 6 Ang nais nila ay ang mga upuang pandangal sa mga handaan at ang mga pangunahing upuan sa sinagoga. 7 Gustung-gusto nilang binabati sila sa mga palengke, at tawaging ‘guro.’ 8 Ngunit, huwag kayong patawag na ‘guro,’ sapagkat iisa ang inyong Guro at kayong lahat ay magkakapatid. 9 Huwag ninyong tawaging ama ang sinumang tao sa lupa sapagkat iisa ang inyong Ama, ang Ama na nasa langit. 10 Huwag kayong patawag na tagapagturo, sapagkat iisa ang inyong tagapagturo, ang Cristo. 11 Ang(Q) pinakadakila sa inyo ay magiging lingkod ninyo. 12 Ang(R) nagmamataas ay ibababa, at ang nagpapakumbaba ay itataas.”
Tinuligsa ni Jesus ang mga Tagapagturo ng Kautusan at ang mga Pariseo(S)
13 “Kahabag-habag kayo, mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan at mga Pariseo! Mga mapagkunwari! Hinahadlangan ninyo ang mga tao upang hindi sila makapasok sa kaharian ng langit. Hindi na nga kayo pumapasok, hinahadlangan pa ninyo ang mga nais pumasok! [14 Kahabag-habag kayo, mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan at mga Pariseo! Mga mapagkunwari! Inuubos ninyo ang kabuhayan ng mga biyuda at ang idinadahilan ninyo'y ang pagdarasal ng mahahaba! Dahil dito'y lalo pang bibigat ang parusa sa inyo!][c]
15 “Kahabag-habag kayo, mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan at mga Pariseo! Mga mapagkunwari! Nilalakbay ninyo ang karagatan at ginagalugad ang buong daigdig makahikayat lamang kayo ng kahit isang Hentil sa pananampalatayang Judio. Ngunit kapag ito'y nahikayat na, ginagawa ninyo siyang masahol pa at lalong dapat parusahan sa impiyerno kaysa sa inyo.
16 “Kahabag-habag kayo, mga bulag na taga-akay! Itinuturo ninyo na kung gagamitin ninuman ang Templo sa panunumpa, walang halaga ito. Ngunit kung ang gagamitin niya sa panunumpa ay ang ginto ng Templo, dapat niyang tuparin ang kanyang sumpa. 17 Mga bulag! Mga hangal! Alin ba ang mas mahalaga, ang ginto, o ang Templong nagpapabanal sa ginto? 18 Sinasabi rin ninyo na kung gagamitin ninuman ang dambana sa panunumpa, walang halaga ito. Ngunit kung ang gagamitin niya ay ang handog na nasa dambana, dapat niyang tuparin ang kanyang sumpa. 19 Mga bulag! Alin ba ang mas mahalaga, ang handog o ang dambana na nagpapabanal sa handog? 20 Kaya nga, kapag nanumpa ang sinuman na saksi ang dambana, ginagawa niyang saksi ito at ang lahat ng handog dito. 21 Kapag nanumpa ang sinuman na saksi niya ang Templo, ginagawa niyang saksi ito at ang Diyos na nasa Templo. 22 At(T) kapag nanumpa ang sinuman na saksi niya ang langit, ginagawa niyang saksi ang trono ng Diyos at ang Diyos na nakaupo doon.
23 “Kahabag-habag(U) kayo, mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan at mga Pariseo! Mga mapagkunwari! Nagbibigay kayo ng ikasampung bahagi ng maliliit na halamang tulad ng yerbabuena, ruda at linga ngunit kinakaligtaan naman ninyong isagawa ang mas mahahalagang turo sa Kautusan: ang katarungan, ang pagkahabag, at ang katapatan. Dapat ninyong gawin ang mga ito nang hindi kinakaligtaan ang ibang utos. 24 Mga bulag na taga-akay! Sinasala ninyo ang kulisap sa inyong inumin, ngunit nilulunok naman ninyo ang kamelyo!
25 “Kahabag-habag kayo, mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan at mga Pariseo! Mga mapagkunwari! Nililinis ninyo ang labas ng tasa at pinggan, ngunit ang mga iyon ay puno ng kasakiman at pagiging makasarili. 26 Bulag na Pariseo! Linisin mo muna ang nasa loob ng tasa [at pinggan][d] at magiging malinis din ang labas nito!
27 “Kahabag-habag(V) kayo, mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan at mga Pariseo! Mga mapagkunwari! Ang katulad ninyo'y mga libingang pinaputi, magaganda sa labas, ngunit ang loob ay bulok at puno ng kalansay. 28 Ganyang-ganyan kayo! Sa paningin ng tao'y mabubuti, ngunit ang totoo'y punung-puno kayo ng pagkukunwari at kasamaan.”
Paparusahan ang mga Mapagkunwari(W)
29 “Kahabag-habag kayo, mga tagapagturo ng Kautusan at mga Pariseo! Mga mapagkunwari! Nagpapagawa kayo ng libingan para sa mga propeta, at pinapaganda ang mga puntod ng mga taong namuhay nang matuwid. 30 Sinasabi pa ninyo, ‘Kung kami sana'y nabuhay sa kapanahunan ng aming mga ninuno, hindi kami makikiisa sa pagpatay sa mga propeta.’ 31 Sa sinabi ninyong iyan, inaamin ninyong kayo'y mga anak ng mga pumaslang sa mga propeta! 32 Sige! Tapusin ninyo ang sinimulan ng inyong mga ninuno! 33 Mga(X) ahas! Lahi ng mga ulupong! Hindi kayo makakaiwas na maparusahan sa impiyerno! 34 Kaya nga, magsusugo ako sa inyo ng mga propeta, mga matatalinong tao at mga tagapagturo! Papatayin ninyo ang ilan sa kanila, at ang iba'y ipapako sa krus. Ang iba'y hahagupitin ninyo sa inyong mga sinagoga at uusigin sa bayan-bayan. 35 Kaya(Y) nga, paparusahan kayo dahil sa pagkamatay ng lahat ng taong pinatay na walang sala, magmula kay Abel hanggang kay Zacarias na anak ni Baraquias. Pinaslang ninyo si Zacarias sa pagitan ng Templo at ng dambanang sunugan ng mga handog. 36 Tandaan ninyo: ang parusa sa lahat ng mga pagpatay na iyon ay babagsak sa salinlahing ito.”
Ang Pag-ibig ni Jesus sa Jerusalem(Z)
37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem! Pinapatay mo ang mga propeta at binabato ang mga isinugo sa iyo! Ilang ulit kong sinikap na kupkupin ang iyong mga anak, kung paano tinitipon ng isang inahin ang kanyang mga sisiw sa ilalim ng kanyang mga pakpak, ngunit ayaw ninyo. 38 Kaya't(AA) ang inyong Templo ay iiwan na lubusang pinabayaan. 39 Sinasabi(AB) ko sa inyo, hindi na ninyo ako makikita hanggang dumating ang oras na sabihin ninyo, ‘Pinagpala ang dumarating sa pangalan ng Panginoon!’”
Tungkol sa Pagkawasak ng Templo(AC)
24 Lumabas si Jesus sa Templo. Paalis na siya nang lumapit ang mga alagad at itinuro sa kanya ang mga gusali ng Templo. 2 Sinabi niya sa kanila, “Nakikita ba ninyo ang mga gusaling iyan? Tandaan ninyo! Darating ang araw na wala riyang matitirang bato sa ibabaw ng isa pang bato. Lahat ay iguguho!”
Mga Kahirapan at Pag-uusig na Darating(AD)
3 Habang si Jesus ay nakaupo sa Bundok ng mga Olibo, palihim siyang tinanong ng kanyang mga alagad, “Kailan po ba mangyayari ang mga sinabi ninyo? Ano po ang magiging palatandaan ng inyong muling pagparito at ng katapusan ng mundo?”
4 Sumagot si Jesus, “Mag-ingat kayo upang hindi kayo mailigaw ninuman! 5 Maraming paparito sa pangalan ko at magpapanggap na sila ang Cristo, at marami silang maililigaw. 6 Makakarinig kayo ng mga labanan at makakabalita ng mga digmaan sa iba't ibang dako. Ngunit huwag kayong mababahala dahil talagang mangyayari ang mga iyon, bagama't hindi pa iyon ang katapusan ng mundo. 7 Maglalaban-laban ang mga bansa at gayundin ang mga kaharian. Magkakaroon ng taggutom at lilindol sa maraming lugar. 8 Ang lahat ng mga ito'y pasimula pa lamang ng mga paghihirap na tulad sa isang babaing nanganganak.
9 “Pagkatapos(AE) ay kapopootan kayong lahat dahil sa inyong pagsunod sa akin. Isasakdal kayo upang pahirapan at patayin, 10 at dahil dito'y marami ang tatalikod sa kanilang pananampalataya. Mapopoot sila at magtataksil sa isa't isa. 11 Marami ang magpapanggap na propeta at ililigaw ang mga tao. 12 Lalaganap ang kasamaan, kaya't manlalamig ang pag-ibig ng marami. 13 Ngunit(AF) ang mananatiling tapat hanggang wakas ang siyang maliligtas. 14 Ipapangaral sa buong sanlibutan ang Magandang Balitang ito tungkol sa kaharian ng Diyos upang magsilbing patotoo sa lahat ng mga bansa. At saka darating ang wakas.”
Ang Kasuklam-suklam na Kalapastanganan(AG)
15 “Kapag(AH) nakita ninyong nagaganap na sa Dakong Banal ang kasuklam-suklam na kalapastanganang tinutukoy ni Propeta Daniel (unawain ito ng nagbabasa), 16 ang mga nasa Judea ay dapat tumakas papunta sa kabundukan, 17 ang(AI) nasa bubungan ay huwag nang mag-aksaya ng panahon na kumuha pa ng kahit ano sa loob ng bahay, 18 at ang nasa bukid ay huwag nang umuwi upang kumuha ng balabal. 19 Sa mga araw na iyon, kawawa ang mga nagdadalang-tao at mga nagpapasuso! 20 Ipanalangin ninyo na ang inyong pagtakas ay huwag mapataon sa taglamig o sa Araw ng Pamamahinga. 21 Sapagkat(AJ) sa mga araw na iyon, ang mga tao'y magdaranas ng matinding kapighatiang hindi pa nararanasan mula nang likhain ang sanlibutan hanggang sa ngayon, at hindi na mararanasan pa kahit kailan. 22 At kung hindi pinaikli ng Diyos ang mga araw na iyon, walang taong maliligtas. Ngunit alang-alang sa mga hinirang, paiikliin ng Diyos ang mga araw na iyon.
23 “Kung may magsasabi sa inyo, ‘Narito ang Cristo!’ o ‘Naroon siya!’ huwag kayong maniniwala. 24 Sapagkat may lilitaw na mga huwad na Cristo at mga huwad na propeta. Magpapakita sila ng mga kamangha-manghang himala at mga kababalaghan upang iligaw, kung maaari, maging ang mga hinirang ng Diyos. 25 Tandaan ninyo, ipinagpauna ko nang sabihin ito sa inyo.
26 “Kaya't(AK) kung sabihin nila sa inyo, ‘Naroon siya sa ilang,’ huwag kayong pumunta roon. Kung sabihin naman nilang, ‘Naroon siya sa silid,’ huwag kayong maniniwala. 27 Sapagkat darating ang Anak ng Tao na parang kidlat na gumuguhit mula sa silangan hanggang sa kanluran.
28 “Kung(AL) nasaan ang bangkay, doon nagkakatipon ang mga buwitre.”
Ang Pagparito ng Anak ng Tao(AM)
29 “Pagkatapos(AN) ng kapighatian sa mga araw na iyon, magdidilim ang araw, hindi magliliwanag ang buwan, malalaglag mula sa langit ang mga bituin, at mayayanig ang mga kapangyarihan sa kalawakan. 30 Pagkatapos,(AO) lilitaw sa langit ang tanda ng Anak ng Tao at mananangis ang lahat ng mga bansa sa daigdig. Makikita nila ang Anak ng Tao na nasa alapaap at dumarating na may dakilang kapangyarihan at kadakilaan. 31 Sa hudyat ng malakas na tunog ng trumpeta, susuguin niya ang kanyang mga anghel sa apat na sulok ng daigdig at titipunin nila ang mga hinirang mula sa lahat ng dako.”
Ang Aral mula sa Puno ng Igos(AP)
32 “Unawain ninyo ang aral mula sa puno ng igos; kapag ang mga sanga nito ay umuusbong at nagkakadahon na, alam ninyong malapit na ang tag-araw. 33 Gayundin naman, kapag nakita ninyo ang lahat ng ito, malalaman ninyong malapit na siyang[e] dumating, halos naririto na. 34 Tandaan ninyo, magaganap ang lahat ng mga ito bago maubos ang salinlahing ito. 35 Lilipas ang langit at ang lupa, ngunit ang aking mga sinasabi ay tiyak na mananatili.”
Walang Nakakaalam ng Araw o Oras(AQ)
36 “Ngunit tungkol sa araw at oras na iyon ay walang nakakaalam, kahit ang mga anghel sa langit [o maging ang Anak man].[f] Ang Ama lamang ang nakakaalam nito. 37 Ang(AR) pagdating ng Anak ng Tao ay tulad noong panahon ni Noe. 38 Nang mga araw na iyon, bago bumaha, ang mga tao'y nagsisikain, nag-iinuman, at nagsisipag-asawa hanggang sa araw na pumasok si Noe sa barko. 39 Hindi(AS) nila namamalayan ang nangyayari hanggang sa dumating ang baha at tinangay silang lahat. Gayundin ang mangyayari sa pagdating ng Anak ng Tao. 40 Sa panahong iyon, may dalawang lalaking nagtatrabaho sa bukid, kukunin ang isa at iiwan ang ikalawa. 41 May dalawang babaing nagtatrabaho sa gilingan, kukunin ang isa at iiwan ang ikalawa. 42 Kaya't maging handa kayo dahil hindi ninyo alam kung kailan darating ang inyong Panginoon. 43 Unawain(AT) ninyo ito: kung alam ng may-ari ng bahay kung anong oras sa gabi darating ang magnanakaw, siya'y maghahanda at hindi niya pababayaang pasukin ang kanyang bahay. 44 Kaya't lagi kayong maging handa, sapagkat darating ang Anak ng Tao sa oras na hindi ninyo inaasahan.”
Dapat Palaging Maging Handa(AU)
45 “Sino ang tapat at matalinong alipin? Hindi ba't ang pinamamahala ng kanyang panginoon upang magpakain sa iba pang mga alipin sa takdang oras? 46 Pinagpala ang aliping iyon kapag dinatnan siyang tapat na naglilingkod sa pagbabalik ng kanyang panginoon! 47 Sinasabi ko sa inyo, gagawin siyang tagapamahala ng kanyang panginoon sa lahat ng mga ari-arian nito. 48 Ngunit kung masama ang aliping iyon, sasabihin niya sa kanyang sarili, ‘Matatagalan pa ang pagbabalik ng aking panginoon.’ 49 Kaya't sisimulan niyang bugbugin ang kanyang kapwa alipin, at makikipagkainan at makikipag-inuman sa mga lasenggo. 50 Babalik ang panginoon ng aliping iyon sa araw na hindi niya inaasahan at sa oras na hindi niya alam. 51 Bibigyan siya ng kanyang panginoon ng matinding parusa,[g] at pagkatapos ay isasama sa mga mapagkunwari. Doo'y tatangis siya at magngangalit ang ngipin.”
