¹⁷ So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations; and from David until the exile to Babylon, fourteen generations; and from the exile to Babylon until the Messiah, fourteen generations.^(A)

³⁵ The^(A) people stood watching, and even the leaders were scoffing:^(B) ‘He saved others; let him save himself if this is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One! ’^(C)

¹⁸ In this way God fulfilled what he had predicted through all the prophets – that his Messiah would suffer.^(A)
