² ‘This is John the Baptist,’ he told his servants. ‘He has been raised from the dead, and that’s why miraculous powers are at work in him.’^(A)

¹⁰ So the disciples asked him, ‘Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first? ’^(A)

¹⁵ But others said, ‘He’s Elijah.’^(A) Still others said, ‘He’s a prophet, like one of the prophets from long ago.’^(B)

⁸ some that Elijah had appeared,^(A) and others that one of the ancient prophets had risen.^(B)

²¹ ‘What then? ’ they asked him. ‘Are you Elijah? ’^(A)

‘I am not,’ he said.

‘Are you the Prophet? ’^(B)

‘No,’ he answered.
