³¹ Which of the two did his father’s will? ’

They said, ‘The first.’

Jesus said to them, ‘Truly I tell you, tax collectors and prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God before you.

⁴⁷ And that servant who knew his master’s will and didn’t prepare himself or do it^[a] will be severely beaten.^(A)

²⁵ and released the one they were asking for, who had been thrown into prison for rebellion and murder. But he handed Jesus over to their will.^(A)

¹³ who were born,^(A) not of natural descent,^[a] or of the will^(B) of the flesh,^(C) or of the will of man,^[b] but of God.^(D)

³⁷ But he who stands firm in his heart (who is under no compulsion, but has control over his own will^(A)) and has decided in his heart to keep her as his fiancée, will do well.

²¹ because no prophecy ever came by the will of man;^(A) instead, men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.^(B)
