³² For John came to you in the way of righteousness,^(A) and you didn’t believe him. Tax collectors and prostitutes did believe him; but you, when you saw it, didn’t even change your minds then and believe him.

¹² Tax collectors^(A) also came to be baptised, and they asked him, ‘Teacher, what should we do? ’^(B)

²⁵ He had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit,^[a] he was speaking and teaching accurately about Jesus, although he knew only John’s baptism.^(A)

³ ‘Into what then were you baptised? ’ he asked them.

‘Into John’s baptism,’ they replied.^(A)
