¹³ ‘Therefore be alert, because you don’t know either the day or the hour.^[a]

⁴⁰ Then he came to the disciples and found them sleeping. He asked Peter, ‘So, couldn’t you stay awake with me for one hour? ⁴¹ Stay awake and pray, so that you won’t enter into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.’

³¹ Therefore be on the alert, remembering that night and day for three years I never stopped warning each one of you with tears.^(A)

Final Exhortation

¹³ Be alert, stand firm in the faith,^(A) be courageous,^[a] be strong.

⁸ Be sober-minded,^(A) be alert.^(B) Your adversary the devil^(C) is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for anyone he can devour.

¹⁰ But the day of the Lord^(A) will come like a thief;^[a](B) on that day the heavens will pass away^(C) with a loud noise, the elements will burn and be dissolved,^(D) and the earth and the works on it will be disclosed.^[b][c]
