² After tying him up, they led him away and handed him over to Pilate,^[a] the governor.^(A)

⁴ Pilate then told the chief priests and the crowds, ‘I find no grounds^(A) for charging this man.’

¹⁵ They shouted, ‘Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him! ’

Pilate said to them, ‘Should I crucify your king? ’

‘We have no king but Caesar! ’ the chief priests answered.

²⁸ Though they found no grounds for the death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him killed.^(A)
