¹¹ ‘I baptise you with^[a] water for repentance,^(A) but the one who is coming after me is more powerful than I. I am not worthy to remove^[b] his sandals. He himself will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire.^(B)

⁷ He came as a witness to testify about the light, so that all might believe through him.^[a]

²⁷ He is the one coming after me,^[a](A) whose sandal strap I’m not worthy to untie.’

²⁴ Before his coming to public attention, John had previously proclaimed a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.^{(A) 25} Now as John was completing his mission, he said, “Who do you think I am? I am not the one. But one is coming after me, and I am not worthy to untie the sandals on his feet.”^(B)
