¹¹ ‘I baptise you with^[a] water for repentance,^(A) but the one who is coming after me is more powerful than I. I am not worthy to remove^[b] his sandals. He himself will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire.^(B)

⁷ He proclaimed, ‘One who is more powerful^(A) than I am is coming after me.^(B) I am not worthy^(C) to stoop down and untie the strap of his sandals.^(D)

¹⁶ John answered them all,^(A) ‘I baptise you with water, but one who is more powerful than I am is coming. I am not worthy to untie the strap of his sandals. He will baptise you with^[a] the Holy Spirit and fire.

²⁰ He didn’t deny it but confessed, ‘I am not the Messiah.’^(A)

²⁷ He is the one coming after me,^[a](A) whose sandal strap I’m not worthy to untie.’

²⁴ But I consider my life of no value to myself; my purpose is to finish my course^[a] and the ministry^(A) I received from the Lord Jesus,^(B) to testify to the gospel of God’s grace.
