²³ Then I will announce to them, “I never knew you. Depart from me, you lawbreakers!”^[a](A)[b]

⁴⁰ Therefore, just as the weeds are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age.^(A)

⁴² They will throw them into the blazing furnace^(A) where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.^(B)

⁴⁸ where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.^[a]

⁴ For if God didn’t spare^(A) the angels who sinned but cast them into hell^[a](B) and delivered them in chains^[b] of utter darkness to be kept for judgement;^(C)

⁶ and the angels^(A) who did not keep their own position but abandoned their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains in deep darkness for the judgement on the great day. ⁷ Likewise, Sodom and Gomorrah^(B) and the surrounding towns committed sexual immorality and perversions,^[a] and serve as an example by undergoing the punishment of eternal fire.^(C)
