40 他们清早起来，上山顶去，说：“我们在这里；我们要上耶和华应许的地方去，因为我们犯了罪。” 41 摩西说：“你们为甚么又违背耶和华的命令呢？这事必不能成功。 42 你们不要上去，因为耶和华不在你们中间，免得你们在仇敌面前被杀败。 43 因为亚玛力人和迦南人都在那里，在你们面前，你们必倒在刀下；因为你们转离不跟随耶和华，耶和华不与你们同在。” 44 他们却擅自上山顶去，但是耶和华的约柜和摩西并没有离开营地。 45 于是，亚玛力人和住在那山上的迦南人就下来，击杀他们，粉碎他们，直到何珥玛。

New International Version
40 Early the next morning they set out for the highest point in the hill country,(A) saying, “Now we are ready to go up to the land the Lord promised. Surely we have sinned!(B)”
41 But Moses said, “Why are you disobeying the Lord’s command? This will not succeed!(C) 42 Do not go up, because the Lord is not with you. You will be defeated by your enemies,(D) 43 for the Amalekites(E) and the Canaanites(F) will face you there. Because you have turned away from the Lord, he will not be with you(G) and you will fall by the sword.”
44 Nevertheless, in their presumption they went up(H) toward the highest point in the hill country, though neither Moses nor the ark of the Lord’s covenant moved from the camp.(I) 45 Then the Amalekites and the Canaanites(J) who lived in that hill country(K) came down and attacked them and beat them down all the way to Hormah.(L)
