God’s Judgement of Israel’s Rebellion

¹¹ The Lord said to Moses, ‘How long will these people despise me? How long will they not trust in me despite all the signs I have performed among them?^(A)

²³ will ever see the land I swore to give their ancestors.^(A) None of those who have despised me^(B) will see it.

²⁹ Why, then, do all of you despise my sacrifices and offerings that I require at the place of worship?^(A) You have honoured your sons more than me,^(B) by making yourselves fat with the best part of all of the offerings of my people Israel.”

³⁰ ‘Therefore, this is the declaration of the Lord, the God of Israel: “I did say that your family and your forefather’s family would walk before me for ever.^(C) But now,” this is the Lord’s declaration, “no longer! For those who honour me I will honour,^(D) but those who despise me will be disgraced.^(E)

¹⁰ Now therefore, the sword will never leave your house^(A) because you despised me and took the wife of Uriah the Hethite to be your own wife.”

¹⁷ They keep on saying to those who despise me,^(A) “The Lord has spoken: You will have peace.”^(B) They have said to everyone who follows the stubbornness of his heart, “No harm will come to you.” ’

Disobedience of the Priests

⁶ ‘A son honours his father, and a servant his master. But if I am a father, where is my honour? And if I am a master, where is your fear of me?^(A) says the Lord of Armies to you priests, who despise my name.’

Yet you ask, ‘How have we despised your name? ’
