38 Only Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh remained alive of those men who went to scout out the land.

39 When Moses reported these words to all the Israelites, the people were overcome with grief. 40 They got up early the next morning and went up the ridge of the hill country, saying, ‘Let’s go to the place the Lord promised, for we were wrong.’(A)

38 Of the men who went to explore the land,(A) only Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh survived.(B)
39 When Moses reported this(C) to all the Israelites, they mourned(D) bitterly. 40 Early the next morning they set out for the highest point in the hill country,(E) saying, “Now we are ready to go up to the land the Lord promised. Surely we have sinned!(F)”
