⁸He sits in ambush in villages;
in the hiding places he kills the innocent.
His eyes lurk^[a] for the helpless.

New International Version

⁸He lies in wait^(A) near the villages;
from ambush he murders the innocent.^(B)
His eyes watch in secret for his victims;

⁹He lies in ambush secretly,^[a] like a lion in a thicket.
He lies in ambush to seize the poor;
he seizes the poor by catching him in his net.

⁹ like a lion in cover he lies in wait.
He lies in wait to catch the helpless;^(A)
he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.^(B)
