8 This animal was once alive, but it is not alive now. Soon it will come up out of the deep hole again but then God will destroy it completely.[a] All these things will surprise many people who live on the earth. Those are the people whose names are not written in God's book of life from the beginning of the world. They will be surprised to see the animal that was alive at one time. It is not alive now, but it will soon appear again.

8 The beast, which you saw, once was, now is not, and yet will come up out of the Abyss(A) and go to its destruction.(B) The inhabitants of the earth(C) whose names have not been written in the book of life(D) from the creation of the world will be astonished(E) when they see the beast, because it once was, now is not, and yet will come.
