¹⁴ It deceives those who live on the earth^(A) because of the signs that it is permitted to perform in the presence of the beast,^(B) telling those who live on the earth to make an image^[a] of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived.

³ He threw him into the abyss, closed it, and put a seal on it^(A) so that he would no longer deceive the nations^(B) until the thousand years were completed. After that, he must be released for a short time.

⁸ and will go out to deceive the nations^(A) at the four corners of the earth,^(B) Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle.^(C) Their number is like the sand of the sea.^(D)
