³ Now Joshua was dressed with filthy^[a] clothes^(A) as he stood before the angel.^{(B) 4} So the angel of the Lord^[b] said to those^[c] standing before him, ‘Take off his filthy clothes! ’ Then he said to him, ‘See, I have removed your iniquity from you,^(C) and I will clothe you with festive robes.’

7 So then, dear friends, since we have these promises,^(A) let us cleanse ourselves from every impurity of the flesh and spirit,^(B) bringing holiness to completion^[a] in the fear of God.^(C)

⁴ These are the ones who have not defiled themselves with women, since they remained virgins.^(A) These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They were redeemed^[a] from humanity as the firstfruits^(B) for God and the Lamb.
