Instructions for Making the Tabernacle

26 “And the tabernacle you will make with ten curtains; you will make them of finely twisted linen and blue and purple and crimson yarns, with cherubim, the work of a skilled craftsman. The length of the one curtain will be twenty-eight cubits, and the width will be four cubits for the one curtain; one measure will be for all the curtains. Five curtains will be joined to one another,[a] and five curtains joined to one another.[b] And you will make loops of blue on the edge of the one curtain, at the end in the set; and you will do so on the edge of the end curtain in the second set. You will make fifty loops on the one curtain, and you will make fifty loops on the end of the curtain that is in the second set; the loops are to be opposite[c] to one another.[d] And you will make fifty gold clasps and join the curtains to one another[e] with the clasps, so that the tabernacle will be one.

“And you will make curtains of goat hair for a tent over the tabernacle; you will make them eleven curtains. The length of the one curtain will be thirty cubits, and the width will be four cubits for the one curtain; one measure will be for the eleven curtains. And you will join five curtains together and six curtains together, and you will fold double the sixth curtain at the front of the tent. 10 And you will make fifty loops on the edge of the one curtain at the end of the first set and fifty loops on the edge of the curtain in the second set. 11 And you will make fifty bronze clasps, and you will put the clasps in the loops and join the tent, so that it will be one.

12 “And the surplus in the curtains of the tent will be an overhang; the surplus half curtain will hang over the back of the tabernacle. 13 And a cubit from one side[f] and a cubit from the other side[g] in the surplus in the length of the curtains of the tent will be hung over the sides of the tabernacle equally[h] to cover it.

14 “And you will make a covering for the tent of red-dyed ram skins and a covering of fine leather to go above.

15 “And you will make the frames[i] for the tabernacle of acacia wood as uprights.[j] 16 The length of the frame[k] will be ten cubits, and the width of the one frame[l] will be one and a half cubits. 17 You will make two pegs[m] for the one frame[n] for joining each to another[o] and likewise for all the frames[p] of the tabernacle. 18 And you will make the frames[q] for the tabernacle with twenty frames[r] for the south[s] side. 19 And you will make forty silver bases under the twenty frames,[t] with two bases under the one frame[u] for its two pegs[v] and two bases under the next[w] frame[x] for its two pegs.[y] 20 And for the second side of the tabernacle, the north side, there will be twenty frames[z] 21 and their forty silver bases, with two bases under the one frame[aa] and two bases under the next[ab] frame.[ac]

22 “And for the rear of the tabernacle on the west[ad] you will make six frames.[ae] 23 And you will make two frames[af] for the tabernacle corners at the rear. 24 They will be double at the bottom, and they will be completely together on its top to the one ring; it will be likewise for the two of them; they will be for the two corners. 25 And there will be eight frames[ag] and their silver bases, sixteen bases, with two bases under the one frame[ah] and two bases under the next[ai] frame.[aj]

26 “You will make five bars of acacia wood for the frames[ak] on the one side of the tabernacle, 27 and five bars for the frames[al] on the second side of the tabernacle, and five bars for the frames[am] on the side of the tabernacle at the rear on the west.[an] 28 And the bar in the middle, in the midst of the frames[ao] will run from end to end. 29 And you will overlay the frames[ap] with gold, and you will make their rings of gold as holders[aq] for the bars, and you will overlay the bars with gold. 30 And you will erect the tabernacle according to its plan, which you have been shown on the mountain.

31 “And you will make a curtain of blue and purple and crimson yarns and finely twisted linen, the work of a skilled craftsman; he will make it with cherubim. 32 And you will put it on four acacia pillars overlaid with gold with their gold hooks on four silver bases. 33 And you will put the curtain under the clasps, and you will bring the ark of the testimony there inside the curtain, and the curtain will separate for you between the holy and the most holy place.[ar] 34 And you will put the atonement cover on the ark of the testimony in the most holy place.[as] 35 And you will place the table outside the curtain and the lampstand opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle, and you will put the table on the north side.

36 “And you will make for the entrance of the tent a screen of blue and purple and crimson yarns and finely twisted linen, the work of an embroiderer. 37 And you will make for the screen five acacia pillars, and you will overlay them with gold with their gold hooks, and you will cast for them five bronze bases.

Instructions for Making the Bronze Altar

27 “And you will make the altar of acacia wood, five cubits long and five cubits wide; the altar will be square, and its height will be three cubits. And you will make its horns on its four corners; its horns will be of one piece with it,[at] and you will overlay it with bronze. And you will make its pots for removing its fat-soaked ashes and its shovels and its sprinkling bowls and its forks[au] and its fire pans; you will make all its equipment with bronze. And you will make for it a grating, a work of bronze network, and you will make on the network four bronze rings on its four ends. And you will put it under the ledge of the altar, below, and the network will be up to the middle of the altar. And you will make poles for the altar, poles of acacia wood, and you will overlay them with bronze. And the poles will be put into the rings, and the poles will be on the two sides of the altar when carrying it. You will make it hollow with boards. As it was shown you on the mountain, so they will do.

Instructions for Making the Courtyard

“You will make the courtyard of the tabernacle; for the south[av] side will be hangings for the courtyard of finely twisted linen, one hundred cubits long for the one side. 10 And its twenty pillars and their twenty bases will be bronze; the hooks of the pillars and their bands will be silver. 11 And likewise for the north side along the length will be hangings one hundred cubits long; and its twenty pillars and their bases will be bronze; the hooks of the pillars and their bands will be silver. 12 And the width of the courtyard for the west[aw] side will be hangings of fifty cubits, their ten pillars and their ten bases. 13 And the width of the courtyard for the east side, toward sunrise, will be fifty cubits. 14 And hangings for the shoulder[ax] will be fifteen cubits with their three pillars and their three bases. 15 And fifteen cubits of hangings will be for the second shoulder[ay] with their three pillars and their three bases. 16 And for the gate of the courtyard there will be a screen of twenty cubits of blue and purple and crimson yarns and finely twisted linen, the work of an embroiderer; with their four pillars and their four bases.

17 “All the pillars of the courtyard all around will be banded with silver, and their hooks will be silver, and their bases will be bronze. 18 The length of the courtyard will be one hundred cubits and the width fifty cubits[az] and the height five cubits, of finely twisted linen, with their bronze bases. 19 Bronze will be for all the equipment of the tabernacle in all its service and all its pegs[ba] and all the pegs[bb] of the courtyard.

Instructions for Making Oil for the Lampstand

20 “And you will command the Israelites,[bc] and they will bring to you pure, beaten olive oil for the light, to cause a lamp to burn continually. 21 In the tent of assembly outside the curtain that is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons will arrange it, from evening until morning, before Yahweh as a lasting statute throughout their generations from the Israelites.[bd]

Matthew 25:1-30

The Parable of the Ten Virgins

25 “Then the kingdom of heaven may be compared to ten virgins who took their lamps and[a] went out to meet the bridegroom. Now five of them were foolish and five were wise. For when[b] the foolish ones took their lamps, they did not take olive oil with them. But the wise ones took olive oil in flasks with their lamps. And when[c] the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep.[d] But in the middle of the night there was a shout, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’ Then all those virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish ones said to the wise ones, ‘Give us some of your olive oil, because our lamps are going out!’ But the wise ones answered saying, “Certainly there will never be enough for us and for you! Go instead to those who sell olive oil[e] and buy some[f] for yourselves.’ 10 But while[g] they had gone away to buy it[h] the bridegroom arrived, and those who were ready went inside with him to the wedding celebration, and the door was shut. 11 And later the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open the door[i] for us!’ 12 But he answered and[j] said, ‘Truly I say to you, I do not know you!’ 13 Therefore be on the alert, because you do not know the day or the hour!

The Parable of the Talents

14 For it is like a man going on a journey. He summoned his own slaves and handed over his property to them. 15 And to one he gave five talents, and to another two, and to another one, to each one according to his own ability, and he went on a journey immediately. 16 The one who had received the five talents went out and[k] traded with them and gained five more. 17 In the same way the one who had the two gained two more. 18 But the one who had received the one went away and[l] dug up the ground and hid his master’s money. 19 Now after a long time, the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them. 20 And the one who had received the five talents came up and[m] brought five more talents, saying, ‘Master, you handed over to me five talents. See, I have gained five more talents!’ 21 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge over many things. Enter into the joy of your master!’ 22 And the one who had the two talents also came up and[n] said, ‘Master, you handed over to me two talents. See, I have gained two talents more!’ 23 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful slave! You were faithful over a few things; I will put you in charge over many things. Enter into the joy of your master!’ 24 And the one who had received the one talent came up also and[o] said, ‘Master, because I[p] knew you, that you are a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering from where you did not scatter seed.[q] 25 And because I[r] was afraid, I went away and[s] hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what is yours!’ 26 But his master answered and[t] said to him, ‘Evil and lazy slave! You knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather from where I did not scatter seed.[u] 27 Then you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and when I[v] returned I would have gotten back what was mine with interest! 28 Therefore take the talent from him and give it[w] to the one who has the ten talents. 29 For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. 30 And throw the worthless slave into the outer darkness—in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth!’

Psalm 31:1-8

Yahweh Is a Fortress

For the music director. A psalm of David.[a]

31 In you, O Yahweh, I have taken refuge.
Let me not be put to shame ever.
Deliver me by your righteousness.
Incline your ear to me.
Quickly deliver me.
Become my rock of refuge,
a fortified keep[b] to save me.
For you are my rock and my fortress.
So, for the sake of your name,
lead me and guide me.
Bring me out of the net that they have secretly set for me,
for you are my refuge.
Into your hand I commit my spirit.
You have redeemed me, O Yahweh, faithful God.[c]
I hate those devoted to useless idols,
but I trust Yahweh.
I will exult and rejoice in your loyal love.
Because you have seen my misery,
you know the distresses of my life.[d]
And you have not delivered me
into the hand of the enemy.
You have set my feet in a broad place.

Proverbs 8:1-11

Wisdom Calls

Does not wisdom call,
    and understanding raise its voice?
Atop the heights[a] beside the road,
    at the crossroads she stands.
Beside gates, before towns,
at the entrance of doors, she cries out:
“To you, O people,[b] I call,
and my cry is to the children of humankind.
Learn prudence, O simple ones;
    fools, learn intelligence.[c]
Listen! For noble things I will speak,
and upright things from the opening of my lips.
My mouth will utter truth,
and wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
All sayings of my mouth are in righteousness;
none of them are twisted and crooked.
All of them are straight to him who understands,
and upright to those who find knowledge.
10 Take my teaching and not silver;
may you choose knowledge rather than choice gold.
11 For wisdom is better than jewels,
and all desires shall not compare with her.
