Legacy Standard Bible (LSB)
Version
Leviticus 16:29-18:30

29 “And this shall be a perpetual statute for you: (A)in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall humble your souls and not (B)do any work, whether the native or the sojourner who sojourns among you; 30 for it is on this day that [a]atonement shall be made for you to (C)cleanse you; you will be clean from all your sins before Yahweh. 31 It is to be a sabbath of solemn rest for you, that you may (D)humble your souls; it is a perpetual statute. 32 So the priest who is anointed and [b]ordained to minister as a priest in his father’s place shall make atonement: he shall thus put on (E)the linen garments, the holy garments, 33 and make atonement for the holy sanctuary, and he shall make atonement for the tent of meeting and for the altar. He shall also make atonement for (F)the priests and for all the people of the assembly. 34 Now you shall have this as a (G)perpetual statute, to (H)make atonement for the sons of Israel for all their sins once every year.” And just as Yahweh had commanded Moses, so he did.

Statutes Against Eating Blood

17 Then Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to Aaron and to his sons and to all the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘This is what Yahweh has commanded, saying, “Any man from the house of Israel who slaughters an ox or a lamb or a goat in the camp, or who slaughters it outside the camp, and (I)has not brought it to the doorway of the tent of meeting to bring it near as an offering to Yahweh before the [c]tabernacle of Yahweh, it will be counted as bloodguiltiness to that man. He has shed blood, and that man shall be cut off from among his people. [d]The reason is so that the sons of Israel may bring their sacrifices which they were sacrificing in the open field, that they may bring them in to Yahweh, at the doorway of the tent of meeting to the priest, and sacrifice them as sacrifices of peace offerings to Yahweh. And the priest shall splash the blood on the altar of Yahweh at the doorway of the tent of meeting and (J)offer up the fat in smoke as a soothing aroma to Yahweh. (K)And they shall no longer sacrifice their sacrifices to the [e]goat demons with which they play the harlot. This shall be a perpetual statute to them throughout their generations.”’

“Then you shall say to them, ‘Any man from the house of Israel, or from the sojourners who sojourn among them, who offers a burnt offering or sacrifice, and (L)does not bring it to the doorway of the tent of meeting to [f]offer it to Yahweh, that man also shall be cut off from his people.

10 (M)And any man from the house of Israel, or from the sojourners who sojourn among them, who eats any blood, (N)I will set My face against that person who eats blood and will cut him off from among his people. 11 For (O)the [g]life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar to make atonement for your souls; for (P)it is the blood that makes atonement by the [h]life.’ 12 Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, ‘No person among you may eat blood, and no sojourner who sojourns among you may eat blood.’ 13 So any man from the sons of Israel, or from the sojourners who sojourn among them, who in hunting catches a beast or a bird which may be eaten, (Q)shall pour out its blood and cover it with earth.

14 (R)For as for the [i]life of all flesh, its blood is identified with its [j]life. Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, ‘You are not to eat the blood of any flesh, for the [k]life of all flesh is its blood; whoever eats it shall be cut off.’ 15 (S)And when any person eats an animal which dies or is torn by beasts, whether he is a native or a sojourner, he shall wash his clothes and bathe in water and remain unclean until evening; then he will become clean. 16 But if he does not wash them or bathe his body, then (T)he shall bear his [l]guilt.”

Statutes on the Nakedness of Relatives

18 Then Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘(U)I am Yahweh your God. You shall not do according to what is (V)done in the land of Egypt where you lived, nor are you to do according to what is (W)done in the land of Canaan where I am bringing you; you shall not walk in their statutes. You are to do My judgments and keep My statutes, to walk in them; (X)I am Yahweh your God. So you shall keep My statutes and My judgments, (Y)which if a man does them, he shall live by them; I am Yahweh.

‘None of you shall approach any blood relative [m]of his to uncover nakedness; I am Yahweh. (Z)You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father, that is, the nakedness of your mother. She is your mother; you are not to uncover her nakedness. (AA)You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s wife; it is your father’s nakedness. (AB)The nakedness of your sister, either your father’s daughter or your mother’s daughter, whether born at home or born outside, their nakedness you shall not uncover. 10 The nakedness of your son’s daughter or your daughter’s daughter, their nakedness you shall not uncover; for [n]their nakedness is yours. 11 The nakedness of your father’s wife’s daughter, [o]born to your father, she is your sister; you shall not uncover her nakedness. 12 (AC)You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s sister; she is your father’s blood relative. 13 You shall not uncover the nakedness of your mother’s sister, for she is your mother’s blood relative. 14 (AD)You shall not uncover the nakedness of your father’s brother; you shall not approach his wife; she is your aunt. 15 (AE)You shall not uncover the nakedness of your daughter-in-law; she is your son’s wife; you shall not uncover her nakedness. 16 (AF)You shall not uncover the nakedness of your brother’s wife; it is your brother’s nakedness. 17 (AG)You shall not uncover the nakedness of a woman and of her daughter, nor shall you take her son’s daughter or her daughter’s daughter, to uncover her nakedness; they are blood relatives. It is [p]lewdness. 18 And you shall not [q]marry a woman in addition to [r]her sister [s]as a rival while she is alive, to uncover her nakedness.

19 (AH)Also you shall not approach a woman to uncover her nakedness during her (AI)menstrual impurity. 20 (AJ)And you shall not lie sexually with your neighbor’s wife, to be defiled with her. 21 And you shall not give any of your seed (AK)to pass them over to Molech, nor shall you (AL)profane the name of your God; I am Yahweh. 22 (AM)And you shall not lie with a male as [t]one lies with a female; it is an abomination. 23 (AN)Also you shall not lie with any animal to be defiled with it, nor shall any woman stand before an animal to [u]mate with it; it is a perversion.

24 ‘So do not defile yourselves by any of these things; for by all these (AO)the nations which I am casting out before you have become defiled. 25 So the land has become defiled, (AP)and I have brought its [v]punishment upon it. And the land (AQ)has vomited out its inhabitants. 26 But as for you, you shall keep My statutes and My judgments and shall not do any of these abominations, neither the native nor the sojourner who sojourns among you 27 (for the men of the land who have been before you have done all these abominations, and the land has become defiled); 28 so that the land will not vomit you out, should you defile it, as it has vomited out the nation which has been before you. 29 For whoever does any of these abominations, [w]those persons who do so shall be cut off from among their people. 30 Thus you are to keep (AR)My charge, that you do not do any of the abominable statutes which have been done before you, so as not to defile yourselves with them; (AS)I am Yahweh your God.’”

Mark 7:24-8:10

A Gentile Woman’s Faith

24 (A)Now Jesus stood up and went away from there to the region of (B)Tyre[a]. And when He had entered a house, He was wanting no one to know of it; [b]yet He could not escape notice. 25 But after hearing of Him, a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit immediately came and fell at His feet. 26 Now the woman was a [c]Greek, of Syrophoenician descent. And she kept asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter. 27 And He was saying to her, “Let the children be satisfied first, for it is not [d]good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” 28 But she answered and *said to Him, “Yes, Lord, but even the dogs under the table feed on the children’s crumbs.” 29 And He said to her, “Because of this [e]answer go; the demon has gone out of your daughter.” 30 And going back to her home, she found the child [f]lying on the bed, the demon having left.

The Deaf Hear, the Mute Speak

31 (C)And again He went out from the region of (D)Tyre, and came through Sidon to (E)the Sea of Galilee, within the region of the (F)Decapolis. 32 And they *brought to Him one who was deaf and spoke with difficulty, and they *pleaded with Him to (G)lay His hand on him. 33 (H)And Jesus took him aside from the crowd, by himself, and put His fingers into his ears, and after (I)spitting, He touched his tongue; 34 and looking up to heaven with a (J)sigh, He *said to him, “Ephphatha!” that is, “Be opened!” 35 And his ears were opened, and the [g]impediment of his tongue [h]was removed, and he began speaking plainly. 36 And (K)He gave them orders not to tell anyone; but the more He was ordering them, the more widely they (L)continued to proclaim it. 37 And they were utterly astonished, saying, “He has done all things well; He makes even the deaf to hear and the mute to speak.”

Jesus Feeds Four Thousand

In those days, when there was again a large crowd and they had nothing to eat, (M)Jesus called His disciples and *said to them, (N)I feel compassion for the crowd because they have remained with Me now three days and have nothing to eat. And if I send them away hungry to their homes, they will faint on the way; and some of them have come from a great distance.” And His disciples answered Him, “Where will anyone be able to find enough [i]bread here in this desolate place to satisfy these people?” And He was asking them, “How many loaves do you have?” And they said, “Seven.” And He *directed the crowd to [j]sit down on the ground; and taking the seven loaves, He gave thanks and broke them. And He kept giving them to His disciples to [k]serve to them, and they served them to the crowd. And they also had a few small fish; and (O)after He blessed them, He ordered these to be [l]served as well. And they ate and were satisfied; and they picked up seven large (P)baskets full of what was left over of the broken pieces. Now about four thousand were there, and He sent them away. 10 And immediately He entered the boat with His disciples and came to the district of (Q)Dalmanutha.

Psalm 41

O Yahweh, Be Gracious to Me

For the choir director. A Psalm of David.

41 How blessed is he who (A)considers the [a]poor;
Yahweh will provide him escape (B)in a day of [b]calamity.
Yahweh will (C)keep him and keep him alive,
And he shall be (D)blessed upon the earth;
And (E)do not give him over to the desire of his enemies.
Yahweh will sustain him upon his sickbed;
In his illness, You [c]restore him to health.

As for me, I said, “O Yahweh, be gracious to me;
(F)Heal my soul, for (G)I have sinned against You.”
My enemies (H)speak evil against me,
“When will he die, and his name perish?”
And [d]when he comes to see me, he (I)speaks [e]worthlessness;
His heart gathers wickedness to itself;
When he goes outside, he speaks it.
All who hate me whisper together against me;
Against me, they (J)devise for me [f]calamity, saying,
“A vile thing is poured out [g]upon him,
That when he lies down, he will (K)not rise up again.”
Even my (L)close friend in whom I trusted,
Who ate my bread,
Has lifted up his heel against me.

10 But You, O Yahweh, be gracious to me and (M)raise me up,
That I may repay them.
11 By this I know that (N)You delight in me,
Because (O)my enemy makes no shout in triumph over me.
12 As for me, (P)You uphold me in my integrity,
And You make me (Q)stand firm in Your presence forever.

13 (R)Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel,
From everlasting to everlasting.
Amen and Amen.

Proverbs 10:15-16

15 The (A)rich man’s wealth is his strong city,
The (B)ruin of the poor is their poverty.
16 The [a](C)wages of the righteous is life,
The income of the wicked, punishment.
