39 Now Joseph was brought down into Egypt. And Potiphar, a eunuch of Pharaoh’s (chief steward, an Egyptian), bought him from the hand of the Ishmaelites who had brought him there.
2 And the LORD was with Joseph; and he was a man who prospered and was in the house of his master, the Egyptian.
3 And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did prosper in his hand.
4 So Joseph found favor in his sight and served him. And he made him ruler of his house and put all that he had in his hand.
5 And from the time that he had made him ruler over his house and over all that he had, the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house, for Joseph’s sake. And the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.
6 Therefore, he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand, and took account of nothing with him, except the bread which he ate. And Joseph was a fair person, and well-favored.
7 Now therefore, after these things, his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph, and said, “Lie with me!”
8 But he refused and said to his master’s wife, “Behold, my master does not know what is in the house with me; but has committed all that he has to my hand.
9 “There is no man greater in this house than me. Nor has he kept anything from me, except you, because you are his wife. How, then, can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?”
10 And she still spoke to Joseph every day; but he did not listen to her (to lie with her or to be in her company).
11 Then, on a certain day, Joseph entered into the house to do his business. And there was no man of the household in the house.
12 Therefore, she caught him by his garment, saying, “Sleep with me!” But he left his garment in her hand and fled and got out.
13 Now, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and had fled,
14 she called to the men of her house, and told them, saying, “Behold, he has brought in a Hebrew to us, to mock us; who came in to me, to sleep with me! But I cried with a loud voice.
15 “And when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, he left his garments with me, and fled away, and got out!”
16 So she laid his garment next to her until her lord came home.
17 Then she told him these words, saying, “The Hebrew servant, which you have brought to us, came in to me, to mock me!
18 “But as soon as I lifted up my voice and cried, he left his garment with me, and fled!”
19 Then, when his master heard the words of his wife which she told him, saying, “Your servant did this to me,” his anger was kindled.
20 And Joseph’s master took him and put him in prison, in the place where the king’s prisoners lay bound. And there he was in prison.
21 But the LORD was with Joseph, and showed him mercy, and got him favor in the sight of the master of the prison.
22 And the keeper of the prison committed all the prisoners that were in the prison to Joseph’s hand. And whatever they did there, that he did.
23 And the keeper of the prison inspected nothing that was under his hand, seeing that the LORD was with him. For whatever he did, the LORD made it prosper.
40 And after these things, the butler of the King of Egypt and his baker offended their Lord, the King of Egypt.
2 And Pharaoh was angry against his two officers: against the chief butler and against the chief baker.
3 Therefore, he put them in ward in his chief steward’s house, in the prison, the place where Joseph was bound.
4 And the chief steward gave Joseph charge over them; and he served them. And they continued in ward for a season.
5 And they both dreamed a dream, each of them dreaming in one night, each dream having its own interpretation, both the butler and the baker of the King of Egypt, who were bound in the prison.
6 And when Joseph came in to them in the morning, and looked upon them, behold, they were sad.
7 And he asked Pharaoh’s officers who were with him in his master’s ward, saying, “Why do you look so sad today?”
8 Who answered him, “We have each dreamed a dream; and there is no one to interpret it.” Then Joseph said to them, “Are not interpretations from God? Tell them to me now.”
9 So the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, “In my dream, behold, a vine was before me.
10 “And in the vine were three branches. And as it budded, her flower came forth; and the clusters of grapes grew ripe.
11 “And I had Pharaoh’s cup in my hand; and I took the grapes and wrung them into Pharaoh’s cup. And I put the cup into Pharaoh’s hand.”
12 Then Joseph said to him, “This is the interpretation of it. The three branches are three days.
13 “Within three days, Pharaoh shall lift up your head and restore you to your office. And you shall put Pharaoh’s cup into his hand, as you used to do when you were his butler.
14 “But, remember me when you are restored; and please show mercy to me and mention me to Pharaoh, so that you may bring me out of this house.”
15 “For I was stolen away, by theft, out of the land of the Hebrews; and here, also, I have done nothing that should cause them to put me in the dungeon.”
16 And when the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said to Joseph, “Also, I thought in my dream that I had three white baskets on my head.
17 “And in the uppermost basket there were all kinds of baked goods for Pharaoh. And the birds ate them out of the basket upon my head.”
18 Then Joseph answered, and said, “This is the interpretation of it. The three baskets are three days.
19 “Within three days, Pharaoh shall take your head from you, and shall hang you on a tree; and the birds shall eat your flesh from off you.”
20 And so, the third day (Pharaoh’s birthday), he made a feast for all his servants. And he lifted up the head of the chief butler, and the chief baker, among his servants.
21 And he restored the chief butler to his butlership, who placed the cup into Pharaoh’s hand.
22 But he hanged the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them.
23 Yet, the chief butler did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.
41 And two years later, Pharaoh also dreamed. And behold, he stood by a river.
2 And lo, seven cows came up out of the river, good-looking and fat-fleshed. And they fed in a meadow.
3 And lo, seven other cows came up out of the river after them, sickly and lean-fleshed, and stood by the cows upon the edge of the river.
4 And the sickly and lean-fleshed cows ate up the seven good-looking and fat cows. So, Pharaoh awoke.
5 Again he slept and dreamed a second time. And behold, seven ears of corn grew upon one stalk, plump and good.
6 And lo, seven thin ears, blasted with the east wind, sprang up after them.
7 And the thin ears devoured the seven plump and full ears. Then Pharaoh awoke; and lo, it was a dream.
8 Now, when the morning came, his spirit was troubled. Therefore, he sent and called all the soothsayers of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof. And Pharaoh told them his dreams. But no one could interpret them for Pharaoh.
9 Then, the chief butler spoke to Pharaoh, saying, “I call to mind my faults this day.
10 “Pharaoh, being angry with his servants, put me in ward in the chief steward’s house (me and the chief baker).
11 “Then, one night, we both dreamed a dream. We each dreamed a dream with its own interpretation.
12 “And there was a young man with us, a Hebrew, servant to the chief steward; whom, when we told them, he interpreted our dreams for us. He interpreted both of our dreams.
13 “And as he interpreted, so it happened; for he restored me to my office and hanged him.
14 Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph. And they quickly brought him out of prison; and he shaved him and changed his clothing and came to Pharaoh.
15 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I have dreamed a dream; and no man can interpret it. And I have heard tell of you that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.”
16 And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, “God shall answer for the wealth of Pharaoh without me.”
46 While he was still speaking to the multitude, behold, his mother and his brothers stood outside, desiring to speak with him.
47 Then one said to him, “Behold, your mother and your brothers stand outside, desiring to speak with you.”
48 But He answered and said to him who told Him, “Who is My mother. And who are My brothers?”
49 And He stretched forth His hand toward His disciples and said, “Behold My mother and My brothers.
50 “For whoever shall do My Father’s will (Who is in Heaven), the same is My brother and sister and mother.”
13 The same day, Jesus went out of the house, and sat by the seaside.
2 And great multitudes gathered to Him, so that He went into a ship and sat down. And the whole multitude stood on the shore.
3 Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying, “Behold, a sower went out to sow.
4 “And as he sowed, some fell by the wayside. And the birds came and devoured them.
5 “And some fell upon stony ground, where they did not have much earth. And soon they sprang up, because they had no depth of earth.
6 “But when the Sun came up, they were burnt up; and for lack of rooting, withered away.
7 “And some fell among thorns. And the thorns sprang up and choked them.
8 But some fell in good ground, and brought forth fruit; one corn a hundredfold, some sixtyfold, and another thirtyfold.
9 “The one who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
10 Then the disciples came, and said to Him, “Why did You speak to them in parables?”
11 And He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven. But to them it is not given.
12 “For whoever has, to him shall be given. And he shall have abundance. But whoever does not have, even that which he has shall be taken away from him.
13 “Therefore, I speak to them in parables. Because they, seeing, do not see. And hearing, they do not hear, nor understand.
14 “So in them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled which says, ‘By hearing you shall hear and shall not understand; and seeing, you shall see and shall not perceive.
15 “‘For this people’s heart has grown fat and their ears barely hear and they have closed their eyes, lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and should understand with their hearts and should return, that I might heal them.’
16 “But blessed are your eyes, for they see; and your ears, for they hear.
17 “For truly I say to you that many Prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which you see and have not seen them; and to hear those things which you hear and have not heard them.
18 “Therefore, hear the parable of the Sower.
19 “Whenever anyone hears the Word of the Kingdom, and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away that which was sown in his heart. And this is the one who has received the seed by the wayside.
20 “And the one who received seed in the stony ground, is he who hears the Word, and immediately, with joy, receives it,
21 “but he has no root in himself and endures but a season. For as soon as trouble or persecution comes because of the Word, he quickly stumbles.
22 “And the one who receives the seed among thorns, is he who hears the Word, but the care of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the Word. And it is made unfruitful.
23 “But the one who receives the seed in the good ground, is he who hears the Word and understands it, who also bears fruit and brings forth; some a hundredfold, some sixtyfold, and some thirtyfold.”
17 Hear what is right, O LORD. Consider my cry. Hear my prayer of unfeigned lips.
2 Let my sentence come forth from Your presence. And let Your eyes behold equity.
3 You have tested and visited my heart in the night. You have tried me and found nothing. For I have purposed that my mouth should not offend.
4 Concerning the works of men, by the words of Your lips I kept myself from the paths of the cruel man.
5 Keep my steps in Your paths, so that my feet do not slide.
6 I have called upon You. Surely You will hear me, O God. Incline Your ear to me and hear my words.
7 Show Your marvelous mercies, You Who are the Savior of those who trust in You from such as resist Your right hand.
8 Keep me as the apple of Your eye. Hide me under the shadow of Your wings
9 from the wicked who oppress me, from my enemies who surround me for my soul.
10 They are enclosed in their own fat. They have spoken proudly with their mouth.
11 They have surrounded us now in our steps. They have set their eyes to bring us down to the ground.
12 Like a lion that is greedy for prey (and as it were a lion’s whelp) lurking in secret places.
13 Arise, LORD! Disappoint him! Cast him down! Deliver my soul from the wicked with Your sword;
14 from men, by Your hand, O LORD; from men of the world who have their portion in this life; whose bellies You fill with Your hidden treasure. Their children have enough and leave the rest of their substance for their children.
15 But I will behold Your face in righteousness. And when I awake, I shall be satisfied with Your image. To him who excels: A Psalm of David, the servant of the LORD. Who spoke to the LORD the words of this song on the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies (and from the hand of Saul) and said,
33 The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked. But He blesses the habitation of the righteous.
34 With the scornful He scorns. But He gives grace to the humble.
35 The wise shall inherit glory; but fools, dishonor (though they be exalted).
