Genesis 50:1 - Exodus 2:10

50 Then Joseph fell upon his father’s face and wept upon him and kissed him.

And Joseph commanded his servants, the physicians, to embalm his father; and the physicians embalmed Israel.

So, forty days were fulfilled (for so long did the days of those who were embalmed last); and the Egyptians mourned him for seventy days.

And when the days of his mourning had passed, Joseph spoke to the House of Pharaoh, saying, “If I have now found favor in your eyes, please speak in the ears of Pharaoh, and say,

‘My father made me swear saying, “Lo, I die. Bury me in my grave which I have made me in the land of Canaan.”’ Now, therefore, please let me go and bury my father; and I will come back.”

Then Pharaoh said, “Go up and bury your father, as he has made you swear to do.”

So, Joseph went up to bury his father; and all the servants of Pharaoh went with him, the elders of his house and all the elders of the land of Egypt.

Likewise, all the House of Joseph went, and his brothers, and his father’s House. Only their children and their sheep and their cattle did they leave in the land of Goshen.

And both chariots and horsemen went up with him. And they were an exceedingly great company.

10 And they came to Goren Atad (which is beyond Jordan); and there they made a great and exceedingly severe lamentation. And he mourned for his father for seven days.

11 And when the Canaanites (the inhabitants of the land) saw the mourning in Goren Atad, they said, “This is a great mourning to the Egyptians.” Therefore, the name thereof was called “Abel Mizraim,” which is beyond Jordan.

12 So, his sons did to him as he had commanded them.

13 For his sons carried him into the land of Canaan and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field of Ephron the Hittite (beside Mamre) as a burial place.

14 Then Joseph returned to Egypt, he and his brothers and all who had gone up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father.

15 And when Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “It may be that Joseph will hate us, and will pay us back for all the evil which we did to him.”

16 Therefore, they sent to Joseph, saying, “Your father commanded before his death, saying,

17 ‘Thus shall you say to Joseph, “Please forgive, now, the trespass of your brothers and their sin. For they rewarded you evil.”’ And now, please forgive the trespass of the servants of your father’s God.” And Joseph wept when they spoke to him.

18 Also, his brothers came to him and fell down before his face, and said, “Behold, we are your servants.”

19 To whom Joseph said, “Do not fear. For, am not I under God?

20 “When you thought evil against me, God disposed it to good, so that He might bring to pass as it is this day and save many people alive.

21 “Now, therefore, do not fear. I will nourish you and your children.” And he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.

22 So, Joseph dwelt in Egypt (he and his father’s House). And Joseph lived a hundred and ten years.

23 And Joseph saw Ephraim’s children, even to the third generation. Also, the sons of Machir (the son of Manasseh) were brought upon Joseph’s knees.

24 And Joseph said to his brothers, “I am ready to die; and God will surely visit you and bring you out of this land, to the land which He swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.”

25 And Joseph took an oath from the children of Israel, saying, “God will surely visit you; and you shall carry my bones from there.”

26 So, Joseph died when he was a hundred and ten years old. And they embalmed him and put him in a chest in Egypt.

Now these are the names of the children of Israel who came into Egypt. Every man and his household came there with Jacob.

Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah,

Issachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin,

Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.

So all the souls who came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls. Joseph was in Egypt already.

Now Joseph died, and all his brothers, and that whole generation.

And the children of Israel brought forth fruit and increased in abundance, and were multiplied, and were exceedingly mighty, so that the land was full of them.

Then there rose up a new king in Egypt, who did not know Joseph.

And he said to his people, “Behold, the people of the children of Israel are greater and mightier than us.

10 “Come, let us work wisely with them, lest they multiply and it happens that if there is war, they also join themselves to our enemies and fight against us and get themselves out of the land.”

11 Therefore, they set taskmasters over them, to keep them under with burdens. And they built the cities Pithom and Raamses for the treasures of Pharaoh.

12 But the more they burdened them, the more they multiplied and grew. Therefore, they were more grieved against the children of Israel.

13 So, the Egyptians caused the children of Israel to serve by cruelty.

14 Thus, they made them weary of their lives by extreme labor in clay and in brick, and in all work in the field, with all manner of bondage, which they laid upon them most cruelly.

15 Moreover, the king of Egypt commanded the midwives of the Hebrew women (of which one’s name was Shiphrah, and the name of another, Puah)

16 and said, “When you do the office of a midwife to the women of the Hebrews, and see them on their stools, if it is a son, then you shall kill him. But if it is a daughter, then let her live.”

17 Nevertheless, the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them but saved the male children.

18 Then the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and said to them, “Why have you done this, and have saved the male children?”

19 And the midwives answered Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women are not as the women of Egypt. For they are vigorous and are delivered before the midwives approach them.”

20 God, therefore, prospered the midwives; and the people multiplied and were very mighty.

21 And therefore, because the midwives feared God, He made them houses.

22 Then, Pharaoh charged all his people, saying, “Cast every male child who is born into the river, but save every female child.”

Then, a man of the house of Levi went and took a daughter of Levi as his wife.

And the woman conceived and bore a son. And when she saw that he was fair, she hid him for three months.

But when she could no longer hide him, she took an ark for him made of reed, and daubed it with tar and with pitch, and laid the child therein, and put it among the bulrushes, by the river’s edge.

Now, his sister stood far off, to see what would become of him.

Then, the daughter of Pharaoh came down to wash herself in the river; and her maidens walked by the river’s side. And when she saw the ark among the bulrushes, she sent her maid to fetch it.

Then she opened it and saw it was a child. And behold, the baby wept. So, she had compassion on it, and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”

Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and call a nurse of the Hebrew women to nurse the child for you?”

And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go.” So, the maid went and called the child’s mother,

to whom Pharaoh’s daughter said, “Take this child away and nurse it for me; and I will reward you.” Then the woman took the child and nursed him.

10 Now the child grew. And she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter. And he was as her son. And she called his name, Moses. “Because” she said, “I drew him out of the water.”

Matthew 16:13-17:9

13 Now when Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Whom do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”

14 And they said, “Some say John Baptist; and some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the Prophets.”

15 He said to them, “But, whom do you say that I am?”

16 Then Simon Peter answered, and said, “You are the Christ; the Son of the living God.”

17 And Jesus answered, and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon, the son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed it to you, but my Father Who is in Heaven.

18 “And I also say to you that you are Peter. And upon this rock I will build My Church. And the gates of Hell shall not overcome it.

19 “And I will give to you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. And whatever you shall bind upon Earth, shall be bound in Heaven. And whatever you shall loose on Earth, shall be loosed in Heaven.”

20 Then He charged His disciples that they should tell no one that He was Jesus, the Christ.

21 From that time forth, Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and the chief priests, and scribes, and be slain, and be raised again the third day.

22 Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Master! This shall not happen to You!”

23 Then He turned back and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me because you do not understand the things of God, but the things of men!”

24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone will follow Me, let him forsake himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

25 “For whoever would save his life, shall lose it. And whoever shall lose his life, for My sake, shall find it.

26 “For what shall it profit a man if he should win the whole world, yet he loses his own soul? Or what shall a man give for recompense of his soul?

27 “For the Son of Man shall come in the Glory of his Father, with His angels. And then He shall give to everyone according to his deeds.

28 “Truly I say to you, some of those who stand here shall not taste death before they have seen the Son of Man come in His Kingdom.”

17 And after six days, Jesus took Peter and James, and John his brother, and brought them up into a high mountain, alone.

And He was transfigured before them. And His face shined as the Sun. And His clothes were as white as the light.

And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with Him.

Then Peter answered, and said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here. If You would, let us make three booths here; one for You, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”

“While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them. And behold, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased. Hear Him.”

And when the disciples heard that, they fell on their faces, and were very afraid.

Then Jesus came and touched them, and said, “Arise. And do not be afraid.”

And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one, except Jesus only.

And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, “Tell no one of this vision until the Son of Man has risen again from the dead.”

Psalm 21

21 The king shall rejoice in Your strength, O LORD. Indeed, how greatly shall he rejoice in Your salvation!

You have given him his heart’s desire and have not denied the request of his lips. Selah.

For You meet him with liberal blessings and set a crown of pure gold upon his head.

He asked life of You, and You gave him a long life forever and ever.

His glory is great in Your salvation. Dignity and honor You have laid upon him.

For You have set him as most blessed forever. You have made him glad with the joy of Your countenance.

Because the king trusts in the LORD, and in the mercy of the Most High, he shall not slide.

Your hand shall find out all Your enemies. And Your right hand shall find out those who hate You.

You shall make them like a fiery oven in time of Your anger. The LORD shall destroy them in His wrath. And the fire shall devour them.

10 You shall destroy their fruit from the Earth, and their seed from the children of men.

11 For they intended evil against You and imagined mischief. But they shall not prevail.

12 Therefore, You shall make them turn their back. And You shall make ready the strings of Your bow against their faces.

13 Be exalted, O LORD, in Your strength. So, will we sing and praise Your power. To him who excels upon Aijeleth Hashahar: A Psalm of David.

Proverbs 5:1-6

My son, hearken to my wisdom. Incline your ear to my knowledge,

that you may regard counsel and your lips observe knowledge.

For the lips of a strange woman drop as a honeycomb. And her mouth is more soft than oil.

But the end of her is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.

Her feet go down to death and her steps take hold on Hell.

She does not weigh the way of life. Her paths are moveable. You cannot know them.
