32 But when the people saw that Moses delayed in coming down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together against Aaron, and said to him, “Up! Make us gods to go before us! For we do not know what has become of this Moses (the man who brought us out of the land of Egypt).
2 And Aaron said to them, “Tear off the golden earrings which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them to me.”
3 Then, all the people removed their golden earrings which were in their ears; and they brought them to Aaron.
4 He received them from their hands and fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made a molten calf from it. Then they said, “These are your gods, O Israel, which brought you out of the land of Egypt!”
5 When Aaron saw that, he made an altar before it. And Aaron proclaimed, saying, “Tomorrow shall be the holy day of the LORD.”
6 So, they rose up early the next day and offered burnt offerings and brought peace offerings. Also, the people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
7 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go down. For your people, whom you have brought out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted their ways.
8 “They are soon turned out of the way which I commanded them. They have made a molten calf and have worshipped it, and have made offerings to it, saying, ‘These are your gods, O Israel, which have brought you out of the land of Egypt.’”
9 Again the LORD said to Moses, “I have seen this people. And behold, it is a stiff-necked people.
10 “Now, therefore, leave Me alone, so that My wrath may grow hot against them; for I will consume them. But, I will make of you a mighty people.”
11 But Moses prayed to the LORD his God, and said, “O LORD, why does Your wrath grow hot against Your people, which You have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?
12 “Why should the Egyptians speak, and say, ‘He has brought them out maliciously, to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the Earth?’ Turn from Your fierce wrath; and change Your mind from this evil toward Your people.
13 “Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Your servants, to whom You swore by Your own self, and said to them, ‘I will multiply your seed, as the stars of the sky. And I will give all this land, which I have spoken of, to your seed. And they shall inherit it forever.’”
14 Then the LORD changed His mind from the evil which He threatened to do to His people.
15 So, Moses returned and went down from the mountain with the two Tablets of the Testimony in his hand. The tablets were written on both their sides. They were written on one side and on the other.
16 And these Tablets were the work of God. And this writing was the writing of God, engraved on the Tablets.
17 And when Joshua heard the noise of the people, as they shouted, he said to Moses, “There is a noise of war in the camp.”
18 Who answered, “It is not the noise of those who have the victory, nor the noise of those who are overcome. I hear the noise of singing.”
19 Now, as soon as he came near the camp, he saw the calf and the dancing. So, Moses’ wrath grew hot; and he cast the Tablets out of his hands, and broke them in pieces, beneath the mountain.
20 Afterward, he took the calf which they had made and burned it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and scattered it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink it.
21 Also, Moses said to Aaron, “What did this people do to you, that you have brought so great a sin upon them?”
22 Then Aaron answered, “Do not let the wrath of my Lord grow fierce. You know this people, that they are set on mischief.
23 “And they said to me, ‘Make us gods to go before us. For we do not know what has become of this Moses (the man who brought us out of the land of Egypt).’
24 “Then I said to them, ‘You who have gold, tear it off.’ And they brought it to me; and I cast it into the fire, and out came this calf.”
25 Therefore, Moses saw that the people were unrestrained (for Aaron had made them unrestrained, to their shame among their enemies).
26 And Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, “Whoever is with the LORD, come to me!” And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves to him.
27 Then he said to them, “Thus says the LORD God of Israel: ‘Let every man put his sword by his side and go back and forth, from gate to gate, throughout the camp. And let every man kill his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.”
28 So, the children of Levi did as Moses had commanded. And about three thousand men of the people fell that day.
29 For Moses had said, “Every man consecrate yourself to the LORD this day— even against your son, and against your brother — so that a blessing may be given to you this day.”
30 And when the morning came, Moses said to the people, “You have committed a grievous crime. But now I will go up to the LORD, to see if I may pacify Him for your sin.”
31 Therefore, Moses went back to the LORD, and said, “Oh, this people has sinned a great sin, and has made gods of gold for themselves.
32 “Now, therefore, if You will, pardon their sin. But if You will not, please blot me out of Your Book which You have written.”
33 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against Me, I will put him out of My Book.
34 “Therefore, go now. Bring the people to the place which I commanded you. Behold, My Angel shall go before you. Nevertheless, on the day of My visitation, I will visit their sin upon them.”
35 So, the LORD plagued the people, because of what they did with the calf which Aaron made.
33 Afterward, the LORD said to Moses, “Depart. Go up from here — you and the people which you have brought up out of the land of Egypt — to the land which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, ‘Unto your seed will I give it.’
2 “And I will send an angel before you; and I will cast out the Canaanites, the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
3 “Go up, to a land that flows with milk and honey. For I will not go up with you, lest I consume you on the way (because you are a stiff-necked people).”
4 And when the people heard this bad news, they were sad. And no man put on his ornaments.
5 (For the LORD had said to Moses, “Say to the children of Israel, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. I will come suddenly upon you and consume you. Therefore, take off your ornaments now, so that I may know what to do to you.’”)
6 So, the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by Mount Horeb.
7 Then Moses took his tent and pitched it outside the camp, far away from the camp, and called it “Ohel-Moed”, or the “Tabernacle of the Congregation”. And when anyone sought the LORD, he went out to the Tabernacle of the Congregation, which was outside the camp.
8 And when Moses went out to the Tabernacle, all the people rose up. And every man stood at his tent door and watched Moses until he had gone into the Tabernacle.
9 And as soon as Moses had entered into the Tabernacle, the cloudy pillar descended and stood at the door of the Tabernacle. And the LORD talked with Moses.
10 Now, when all the people saw the cloudy pillar stand at the Tabernacle door, all the people rose up and worshipped (every man in his tent door).
11 And the LORD spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. Afterward, he turned back toward the camp. But his servant, a young man named Joshua, the son of Nun, did not depart from the Tabernacle.
12 Then, Moses said to the LORD, “See, You say to me, ‘Lead this people forth.’ And You have not shown me whom You will send with me. You have also said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found grace in My sight.’
13 “Now, therefore, I pray, if I have found favor in Your sight, show me Your way, so that I may know You, so that I may find grace in Your sight. Also, consider that this nation is Your people.”
14 And He answered, “My presence shall go with you; and I will give you rest.”
15 Then he said to Him, “If Your presence does not go with us, do not carry us from here.
16 “And how, then, shall it be known that I and Your people have found favor in Your sight? Shall it not be when You go with us? So that I and Your people shall be set apart from all the people on Earth?”
17 And the LORD said to Moses, “I will also do this which You have said. For you have found grace in My sight; and I know you by name.”
18 Again he said, “I beg You, show me Your Glory.”
19 And He answered, “I will make all My goodness go before you. And I will proclaim the Name of the LORD before you. For I will show mercy to whom I will show mercy and will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.”
20 Furthermore, He said, “You cannot see My face. For no man shall see Me there and live.”
21 Also, the LORD said, “Behold, a place by Me. And you shall stand upon the rock.
22 “And while My Glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft of the rock and will cover you with My hand while I pass by.
23 “Afterward, I will take away My hand and you shall see the back of Me. But My face shall not be seen.”
69 Peter sat outside in the hall. And a maid came to him, saying, “You were also with Jesus of Galilee.”
70 But he denied before them all, saying, “I don’t understand what you are saying!”
71 And when he went out to the porch, another saw him, and said to those who were there, “This man was also with Jesus of Nazareth!”
72 And he denied it again, with an oath, saying, “I do not know the man!”
73 So after a while, those who stood by came to him, and said to Peter, “Surely you are also one of them. For even your speech gives you away!”
74 Then he began to curse, and to swear, saying, “I do not know the man!” And immediately, the cock crew.
75 Then Peter remembered the words of Jesus, Who had said to him, “Before the cock crows you shall deny Me three times. So, he went out and wept bitterly.
27 When the morning had come, all the chief priests, and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus, to put Him to death.
2 And they led Him away, bound, and delivered Him to Pontius Pilate, the governor.
3 Then, when Judas (who betrayed Him) saw that He was condemned, he repented and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
4 saying, “I have sinned, betraying the innocent blood.” But they said, “What is that to us? You see to it.”
5 And after he had thrown down the silver in the Temple, he departed, and went and hanged himself.
6 And the chief priests took the silver, and said, “It is not lawful for us to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.”
7 And they took counsel, and bought a potter’s field with it, for the burial of strangers.
8 Therefore that field is called, ‘The Field of Blood’, to this day.
9 Then that which was spoken by Jeremiah the Prophet was fulfilled, which says, “And they took thirty silver pieces, the price of the One who was valued, Whom the children of Israel valued,
10 and they gave it for the potter’s field, as the Lord directed me.”
11 And Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked Him, saying, “Are You the King of the Jews?” Jesus said to him, “You say it.”
12 And when He was accused by the chief priests and elders, He answered nothing.
13 Then Pilate said to Him, “Do You not hear how many things they lay against You?”
14 But He did not answer him, even one word; so much so that the governor marveled greatly.
33 Rejoice in the LORD, O righteous! It becomes upright men to be thankful.
2 Praise the LORD with harp! Sing to Him with viol and instrument of ten strings!
3 Sing to Him a new song! Sing cheerfully with a loud voice!
4 For the Word of the LORD is righteous; and all His works are faithful.
5 He loves righteousness and judgment. The Earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.
6 By the Word of the LORD were the heavens made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth.
7 He gathers the waters of the sea together, as upon a heap, and lays up the depths in His treasures.
8 Let all the Earth fear the LORD. Let all those who dwell in the world, fear Him.
9 For He spoke, and it was done. He commanded, and it stood.
10 The LORD breaks the counsel of the heathen and brings the devices of the people to nothing.
11 The counsel of the LORD shall stand forever, and the thoughts of His heart throughout all ages.
33 “Hear instruction and be wise. And do not refuse it. Blessed is the man who hears me; watching daily at my gates; giving attendance at the posts of my doors.
34 “For whoever finds me, finds life, and shall obtain favor from the LORD.
35 “But whoever sins against me, hurts his own soul. All who hate me, love death.”
