Revised Geneva Translation (RGT)
Version
Deuteronomy 5-6

Then Moses called all Israel, and said to them, “Hear, O Israel, the Ordinances and the Laws which I propose to you this day, so that you may learn them and be careful to observe them.

“The LORD our God made a Covenant with us in Horeb.

“The LORD did not only make this Covenant with our fathers, but with us. That is, all of us here alive this day.

“The LORD talked with you face to face on the Mount, out of the midst of the fire.

“At that time, I stood between the LORD and you, to declare to you the Word of the LORD. For you were afraid at the sight of the fire and did not go up on the Mount. And He said,

‘I am the LORD your God, Who has brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

‘You shall have no other gods before My Face.

‘You shall make no graven image for yourself, any likeness that is in Heaven above, which is in the Earth beneath, or that is in the waters under the Earth.

‘You shall neither bow yourself to them, nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, even to the third and fourth generation of those who hate Me,

10 ‘and showing mercy to thousands of those who love Me and keep My Commandments.

11 ‘You shall not take the Name of the LORD your God in vain. For the LORD will not hold him guiltless who lifts up His Name in a frivolous way.

12 ‘Keep the Sabbath day, to sanctify it, as the LORD your God has Commanded you.

13 ‘Six days you shall labor and shall do all your work.

14 ‘But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. You shall not do any work—you or your son or your daughter or your manservant or your maid or your ox or your donkey or any of your cattle or the stranger that is within your gates—so that your manservant and your maid may rest as well as you.

15 ‘For, remember that you were a servant in the land of Egypt. And the LORD your God brought you out from there by a mighty Hand and an outstretched Arm. Therefore, the LORD your God Commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.

16 ‘Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has Commanded you, so that your days may be prolonged and that it may go well with you upon the land which the LORD your God gives you.

17 ‘You shall not kill.

18 ‘Nor shall you commit adultery.

19 ‘Nor shall you steal.

20 ‘Nor shall you bear false witness against your neighbor.

21 ‘Nor shall you covet your neighbor’s wife. Nor shall you desire your neighbor’s house, his field, his manservant, his maid, his ox, his donkey or anything that your neighbor has.’

22 “These words the LORD spoke with a great Voice to all your multitude on the Mount—out of the midst of the fire, the cloud and the darkness—and added no more. And He wrote them upon two Tablets of stone and delivered them to me.

23 “And when you heard the Voice out of the midst of the darkness (for the mountain burned with fire), then you came to me, all the chiefs of your tribes, and your elders,

24 “and you said, ‘Behold, the LORD our God has shown us His Glory and His greatness. And we have heard His Voice out of the midst of the fire. We have seen this day that God talks with man, and he lives.

25 ‘Now, therefore, why should we die? For this great fire will consume us if we hear the Voice of the LORD our God anymore. We shall die.

26 ‘For what flesh was there ever that heard the Voice of the living God, speaking out of the midst of the fire as we have, and lived?

27 ‘You go near and hear all that the LORD our God says and declare to us all that the LORD our God says to you. And we will hear it and do it.’

28 “Then the LORD heard the voice of your words, when you spoke to me. And the LORD said to me, ‘I have heard the voice of the words of this people, which they have spoken to you. They have well said all that they have spoken.

29 ‘Oh that there were such a heart in them to fear Me, and to keep all My Commandments always, so that it might go well with them and with their children forever.

30 ‘Go. Say to them, “Return into your tents.”

31 ‘But you stand here with Me. And I will tell you all the Commandments and the Ordinances and the Laws which you shall teach them, so that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess.

32 ‘Be careful, therefore, to do as the LORD your God has Commanded you. Do not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

33 ‘Walk in all the ways which the LORD your God has Commanded you, so that you may live, and that it may go well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you shall possess.’”

“These, now, are the Commandments, Ordinances, and Laws, which the LORD your God Commanded to teach, so that you might do them in the land to which you go to possess,

“so that you might fear the LORD your God and keep all His Ordinances and his Commandments which I command you—you and your son and your son’s son, all the days of your life—so that your days may be prolonged.

“Hear, therefore, O Israel, and be careful to do it, so that it may go well with you, and that you may increase mightily in the land that flows with milk and honey, as the LORD God of your fathers has promised you.

“Hear, O Israel, The LORD our God is LORD only,

“and you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.

“And these words which I command you this day shall be in your heart.

“And you shall repeat them continually to your children and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and as you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise up.

“And you shall bind them for a sign upon your hand. And they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.

“Also, you shall write them upon the posts of your house and upon your gates.

10 “And when the LORD your God has brought you into the land which He swore to your fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give to you, with great and beautiful cities which you did not build,

11 “and houses full of all manner of goods which you did not fill, wells dug which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant. And you have eaten and are full.

12 “Beware, lest you forget the LORD, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

13 “You shall fear the LORD your God, and serve Him, and shall swear by His Name.

14 “You shall not walk after other gods, the gods of the people who are all around you

15 “(for the LORD your God is a jealous God among you), lest the wrath of the LORD your God be kindled against you and destroy you from the face of the Earth.

16 “You shall not tempt the LORD your God, as you tempted Him in Massah.

17 “You shall diligently keep the Commandments of the LORD your God, and His Testimonies and His Ordinances which He has commanded you.

18 “And you shall do that which is right and good in the sight of the LORD, so that you may prosper, and that you may go in and possess that good land which the LORD swore to your fathers,

19 “to cast out all your enemies before you, as the LORD has said.

20 “When your son shall ask you in the future, saying, ‘What do these Testimonies and Ordinances and Laws which the LORD our God has Commanded you mean?’

21 “Then you shall say to your son, ‘We were Pharaoh’s slaves in Egypt. But the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty Hand.

22 ‘And the LORD showed great and unpleasant signs and wonders before our eyes, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household,

23 ‘and brought us out from there, to bring us in and to give us the land which He swore to our fathers.

24 ‘Therefore, the LORD has Commanded us to do all these Ordinances, to fear the LORD our God, so that it may go well with us, and that He may preserve us alive at the present time.

25 ‘Moreover, this shall be our righteousness before the LORD our God, if we take heed to keep all these Commandments, as He has Commanded us.’

Luke 7:11-35

11 And it happened that the next day, He went into a city called Nain. And many of His disciples went with Him, and a great multitude.

12 Now when He came near to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out - the only begotten son of his mother, who was a widow - and many people of the city were with her.

13 And when the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her, and said to her, “Do not weep.”

14 And He went and touched the coffin. And those who bore him stood still. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, ‘Arise.’”

15 And the dead man sat up and began to speak. And He gave him to his mother.

16 Then a fear came upon them all. And they glorified God, saying, “A great Prophet is risen among us! And God has visited His people!”

17 And this word of Him went forth throughout all Judea, and throughout all the surrounding region.

18 And the disciples of John reported all these things to him.

19 So John called two certain men of his disciples, and sent them to Jesus, saying, “Are You the coming One? Or shall we wait for another?”

20 And when the men had come to Him, they said, “John Baptist has sent us to You, saying, ‘Are You the coming One? Or shall we wait for another?’”

21 And at that time, He cured many of their sicknesses and plagues and evil spirits. And He gave sight freely to many of the blind.

22 And Jesus answered, and said to them, “Go your ways and show John what things you have seen and heard: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor receive the Gospel.

23 “And whoever does not stumble because of Me is blessed.”

24 And when the messengers of John had departed, He began to speak to the people of John, “What did you go out into the wilderness to see - a reed shaken with the wind?

25 “But what did you go out to see - a man clothed in soft garments? Behold, those who are gorgeously appareled, and live delicately, are in kings’ courts.

26 “But what did you go forth to see - a Prophet? ‘Yes’, I say to you, ‘and greater than a Prophet.’

27 “This is he of whom it is written: ‘Behold, I send My messenger before your face, who shall prepare Your way before You.’

28 “For I say to you there is no greater Prophet than John among those who are born of women. Nevertheless, whoever is the least in the Kingdom of God, is greater than him.”

29 Then all the people who heard, and the tax collectors, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.

30 But the Pharisees and the expounders of the Law despised the counsel of God against themselves and were not baptized by him.

31 And the Lord said, “To what shall I liken the men of this generation? And what are they like?

32 “They are like little children sitting in the marketplace, crying one to another, saying, ‘We have played the flute for you, and you have not danced. We have mourned for you, and you have not wept.’

33 “For John Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine. And you say, ‘He has a demon.’

34 “The Son of Man has come, and eats, and drinks. And you say, ‘Behold, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’

35 “But wisdom is justified by all her children.”

Psalm 68:19-35

19 Praised be the LORD, the God of our salvation, Who daily bears our burden. Selah.

20 This is our God, the God Who saves; and to the LORD God belongs the escapes from death.

21 Surely God will wound the head of His enemies, and the hairy scalp of him who walks in his sins.

22 The LORD has said, “I will bring My people again from Bashan. I will bring them again from the depths of the sea,

23 “so that your foot may be dipped in blood and the tongue of your dogs in the blood of your enemies; yes, your enemies.”

24 They have seen, O God, Your goings; the goings of my God and my King, Who is in the Sanctuary.

25 The singers went before, the players of instruments after. In the midst, the maids were playing with timbrels.

26 Praise God in the assemblies, and the LORD, you who are of the fountain of Israel!

27 There was little Benjamin with their ruler, the princes of Judah with their assembly, the princes of Zebulun, and the princes of Naphtali.

28 Your GOD has appointed your strength. Establish, O God, that which You first wrought in us.

29 Out of Your Temple upon Jerusalem, kings shall bring presents to You.

30 Destroy the company of the spearmen who tread pieces of silver under foot, along with the multitude of the mighty bulls and the calves of the people. Scatter the people who delight in war.

31 Then shall the princes come out of Egypt. Ethiopia shall hasten to stretch her hands to God.

32 Sing to God, O you kingdoms of the Earth! Sing praise to the LORD (Selah),

33 to him who rides upon the Most High Heavens, Who was from the beginning. Behold, He will send out, by His voice, a mighty sound!

34 Ascribe the power to God! His majesty is upon Israel and His strength is in the clouds!

35 O God, You are awesome out of Your Holy places! The God of Israel is He Who gives strength and power to the people! Praise God! To him who excels upon Shoshannim: A Psalm of David

Proverbs 11:29-31

29 He who troubles his own house, shall inherit the wind. And the fool shall be servant to the wise in heart.

30 The fruit of the righteous is as a tree of life. And he who wins souls is wise.

31 Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed on the Earth; how much more the wicked and the sinner?
