8 Then Elisha spoke to the woman whose son he had restored to life, saying, “Up and go, you and your House, and sojourn where you can sojourn. For the LORD has called for a famine. And it shall come upon the land for seven years.”
2 And the woman arose and did according to the saying of the man of God and went, both she and her household, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines for seven years.
3 And at the end of seven years, the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines and went out to call upon the king for her House and for her land.
4 And the king talked with Gehazi, the servant of the man of God, saying, “Please tell me all the great acts that Elisha has done.”
5 And as he told the king how he had restored one dead to life, behold, the woman whose son he had raised to life called upon the king for her House and for her land. Then Gehazi said, “My lord, O king! This is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.”
6 And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed a eunuch for her, saying, “Restore all that are hers, and all the fruits of her land, since the day she left the land until this time.”
7 Then, Elisha came to Damascus. And Ben-Hadad, the king of Aram, was sick. And someone told him, saying, “The man of God has come here.”
8 And the king said to Hazael, “Take a present in your hand, and go meet the man of God, so that you may inquire of the LORD by him, saying, ‘Shall I recover from this disease?’”
9 So Hazael went to meet him, and took the present in his hand, and of every good thing of Damascus, the burden of forty camels, and came and stood before him, and said, “Your son Ben-Hadad, king of Aram, has sent me to you, saying, ‘Shall I recover from this disease?’”
10 And Elisha said to him, “Go. Say to him, ‘You shall recover.’ However, the LORD has shown me that he shall surely die.”
11 And he looked upon him steadfastly, until Hazael was ashamed. And the man of God wept.
12 And Hazael said, “Why does my lord weep?” And he answered, “Because I know the evil that you shall do to the children of Israel. You shall set their strong cities on fire, and shall kill their young men with the sword, and shall dash their infants against the stones, and tear their women with child in pieces.”
13 Then Hazael said, “What? Your servant is a dog. But I do this great thing?” And Elisha answered, “The LORD has shown me that you shall be king of Aram.”
14 So he departed from Elisha, and came to his master, who said to him, “What did Elisha say to you?” And he answered, “He told me that you should recover.”
15 And the next day, he took a thick cloth and dipped it in water and spread it on his face and he died. And Hazael reigned in his place.
16 Now, in the fifth year of Joram, the son of Ahab, king of Israel, and of Jehoshaphat, King of Judah, Jehoram, the son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, began to reign.
17 He was thirty-two years old when he began to reign. And he reigned for eight years in Jerusalem.
18 And he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, as did the House of Ahab. For the daughter of Ahab was his wife. And he did evil in the sight of the LORD.
19 Yet the LORD would not destroy Judah for David His servant’s sake, as He had promised him, to give him a light to his children forever.
20 In those days, Edom rebelled from under the hand of Judah and made a king over themselves.
21 Therefore, Joram went to Zair, and all his chariots with him. And he arose by night and struck the Edomites who were around him with the captains of the chariots. And the people fled into their tents.
22 So, Edom has rebelled from under the hand of Judah to this day. And Libnah rebelled at that same time.
23 Concerning the rest of the acts of Joram and all that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?
24 And Joram slept with his fathers and was buried with his fathers in the City of David. And Ahaziah, his son, reigned in his place.
25 In the twelfth year of Joram, the son of Ahab, king of Israel, Ahaziah, the son of Jehoram, king of Judah, began to reign.
26 Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he began to reign. And he reigned for one year in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Athaliah, the daughter of Omri, king of Israel.
27 And he walked in the way of the House of Ahab, and did evil in the sight of the LORD, like the House of Ahab. For he was the son-in-law of the House of Ahab.
28 And he went to war against Hazael, king of Aram, with Joram, the son of Ahab, in Ramoth Gilead. And the Aramites struck Joram.
29 And King Joram returned to Jezreel to be healed of the wounds which the Aramites had given him at Ramah when he fought against Hazael, king of Aram. And Ahaziah, the son of Jehoram, king of Judah, went down to see Joram, the son of Ahab, in Jezreel, because he was sick.
9 Then Elisha the Prophet called one of the children of the Prophets, and said to him, “Gird your loins and take this box of oil in your hand and get yourself to Ramoth Gilead.
2 “And when you get there, look for Jehu, the son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi. And go and make him rise up from among his brethren and lead him to a secret chamber.
3 “Then take the box of oil and pour it on his head, and say, ‘Thus says the LORD: “I have anointed you for king over Israel.”’ Then open the door and flee without any delay.”
4 So the servant of the Prophet got himself to Ramoth Gilead.
5 And when he came in, behold, the captains of the army were sitting. And he said, “I have a message to you, O captain.” And Jehu said, “To which one of us?” And he answered, “To you, O captain.”
6 And he arose and went into the house. And he poured the oil on his head and said to him, “Thus says the LORD God of Israel: ‘I have anointed you king over the people of the LORD, over Israel.
7 ‘And you shall strike the House of Ahab, your master, so that I may avenge the blood of My servants, the Prophets — and the blood of all the servants of the LORD — at the hand of Jezebel.
8 ‘For the whole House of Ahab shall be destroyed. And I will cut off all males from Ahab, he who is shut up as well as he who is left in Israel.
9 ‘And I will make the House of Ahab like the House of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, and like the House of Baasha, the son of Ahijah.
10 ‘And the dogs shall eat Jezebel in the field of Jezreel. And there shall be no one to bury her.’” And he opened the door and fled.
11 Then Jehu came out to the servants of his lord. And someone said to him, “Is all well? Why did this mad man come to you?” And he said to them, “You know the man and what his talk was.”
12 And they said, “It is false. Tell it to us now.” Then he said, “(Thus and thus) he spoke to me, saying, ‘Thus says the LORD: “I have anointed you for king over Israel.”’”
13 Then they hurried. And every man took his garment and put it underneath him, at the top of the stairs, and blew the trumpet, saying, “Jehu is king!”
16 And it happened that as we went to prayer, a certain maid having a spirit of divination (who made her masters much money with divining) met us.
17 She followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who show to you the way of salvation!”
18 And she did this for many days. But Paul, being annoyed, turned around and said to the spirit, “I command you in the Name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!” And it came out the same hour.
19 Now when her masters saw that the hope of their gain was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace, to the Magistrates.
20 And they brought them to the governors, saying, “These Jewish men trouble our city,
21 “and preach ordinances which are not lawful for us to receive, nor to observe, seeing we are Romans!”
22 Then the people rose up together against them. And the governors tore their clothes and commanded them to be beaten with rods.
23 And when they had beaten them terribly, they cast them into prison, commanding the jailer to guard them securely
24 (who, having received such a commandment, cast them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks).
25 Now at midnight, Paul and Silas prayed, and sang Psalms to God. And the prisoners heard them.
26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundation of the prison was shaken. And immediately all the doors opened. And all the shackles were loosened.
27 Then the keeper of the prison awoke from his sleep. And when he saw the prison doors open, he drew out his sword and was about to kill himself (having assumed that the prisoners had escaped).
28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, “Do yourself no harm! For we all are here!”
29 Then he called for a light and rushed in, trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas.
30 And he brought them out, and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
31 And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you and your household shall be saved.”
32 And they preached the Word of the Lord to him, and to all who were in the house.
33 Afterward, that same hour of the night, he took them and washed their wounds. And he was baptized immediately, with all who belonged to him.
34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them, and rejoiced that he, with all his household, believed in God.
35 And when it was day, the governors sent the sergeants, saying, “Let those men go!”
36 Then the keeper of the prison told these words to Paul, saying, “The governors have sent word to free you. Therefore, leave now. And go in peace.”
37 Then Paul said to them, “After they have beaten us openly (uncondemned Romans) and have cast us into prison, now they wish to thrust us out secretly? Certainly not! But let them come and bring us out.”
38 And the sergeants told these words to the governors, who were afraid when they heard that they were Romans.
39 Then they came and pleaded with them; and brought them out and asked them to leave the city.
40 And they went out of the prison and entered into the house of Lydia. And when they had seen the brothers, they comforted them, and departed.
143 Hear my prayer, O LORD! Listen to my supplication. Answer me in Your truth and in Your righteousness.
2 (And do not enter into judgment with Your servant; for in Your sight shall no one who lives be justified.)
3 For the enemy has persecuted my soul. He has stricken my life down to the Earth. He has laid me in the darkness, as those who have long been dead.
4 And my spirit was desolate in me; my heart within me was amazed.
5 I remember the time past. I meditate on all Your works. I meditate on the works of Your hands.
6 I stretch forth my hands to You. My soul desires You, as a thirsty land. Selah.
7 Hear me speedily, O LORD! My spirit fails. Do not hide Your face from me; or else I shall be like those who go down into the pit.
8 Let me hear Your lovingkindness in the morning; for in You is my trust. Show me the way that I should walk in, for I lift up my soul to You.
9 Deliver me, O LORD, from my enemies. I have hidden myself with You.
10 Teach me to do Your will; for You are my God. Let Your good Spirit lead me to the Land of Righteousness.
11 Quicken me, O LORD, for Your Name’s sake. Bring my soul out of trouble because of Your righteousness,
12 and slay my enemies because of Your mercy and destroy all those who oppress my soul; for I am Your servant. A Psalm of David
26 Also, it is not good to condemn the just, nor to strike princes for equity.
