Revised Geneva Translation (RGT)
Version
1 Chronicles 9-10

Thus, all Israel were listed by their genealogies. And behold, they are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and of Judah. And they were carried away to Babel for their transgression.

And the chief inhabitants, who dwelt in their own possessions, in their own cities, were Israel, the Priests, the Levites, and the Nethinim.

And some of the children of Judah dwelt in Jerusalem, and some of the children of Benjamin, and some of the children of Ephraim, and Manasseh

and Uthai, the son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, of the children of Perez, the son of Judah,

and some of Shiloni (Asaiah the eldest and his sons),

and some the sons of Zerah (Jeuel and their brethren). In all, six hundred ninety.

And of the sons of Benjamin were Sallu (the son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hassenuah)

and Ibneiah (the son of Jeroham) and Elah (the son of Uzzi, the son of Michri) and Meshullam (the son of Shephatiah, the son of Reuel, the son of Ibnijah).

And their brethren, according to their generations, were nine hundred fifty-six. All these men were chief fathers in the households of their fathers.

10 And from the priests came Jedaiah and Jehoiarib and Jachin

11 and Azariah, the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub (the chief of the House of God)

12 and Adaiah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Pashur, the son of Malchijah, and Maasai the son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer.

13 And their brethren, the chief of the households of their fathers, were one thousand seven hundred sixty valiant men, for the work of the service of the House of God.

14 And from the Levites came Shemaiah, the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari,

15 and Bakbakkar, Heresh and Galal and Mattaniah, the son of Micah, the son of Zichri, the son of Asaph,

16 and Obadiah, the son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah, the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, who dwelt in the villages of the Netophathites.

17 And the gatekeepers were Shallum and Akkub and Talmon and Ahiman and their brethren. Shallum was the chief.

18 For up to this time, they had been gatekeepers of the children of Levi, by companies, at the king’s eastern gate.

19 And Shallum, the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph the son of Korah, and his brethren the Korahites (of the House of their father) were over the work and office, to keep the Gates of the Tabernacle. So, their families were over the camp of the LORD, keeping the entry.

20 And Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, was their guide. And the LORD was with him.

21 Zechariah, the son of Meshelemiah, was the gatekeeper of the Door of the Tabernacle of the Congregation.

22 All these were chosen as keepers of the Gates (two hundred twelve), who were listed according to their genealogies by their towns. David and Samuel the Seer established these in their perpetual office.

23 So they and their children had the oversight of the Gates of the House of the LORD, even of the House of the Tabernacle, by wards.

24 The gatekeepers were in four quarters: East, West, North and South.

25 And from time to time, their brethren in their towns came with them for seven days.

26 For these four chief gatekeepers were in perpetual office, and were of the Levites, and had charge of the chambers, and of the treasures in the House of God.

27 And they lodged all around the House of God, because the charge was theirs. And they opened it every morning.

28 And certain of them had the rule of the ministering vessels. For they brought them in by tally and brought them out by tally.

29 Some of them were also appointed over the instruments, and over all the vessels of the Sanctuary, and of the flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the incense, and the sweet odors.

30 And certain sons of the priests made ointments of sweet odors.

31 And Mattithiah, one of the Levites, who was the eldest son of Shallum the Korahite, was in charge of the things that were made in the frying pan.

32 And another of their brethren, of the sons of Kohath, had oversight of the Showbread, to prepare it every Sabbath.

33 And these are the singers, the chief fathers of the Levites, who dwelt in the chambers and had no other duties. For they had to work in that business day and night.

34 These were the chief fathers of the Levites, according to their generations, and the principal who dwelt in Jerusalem.

35 And the father of Gibeon, Jeiel, dwelt in Gibeon. And the name of his wife was Maachah.

36 And his eldest son was Abdon, then Zur and Kish and Baal and Ner and Nadab

37 and Gedor and Ahio and Zechariah and Mikloth.

38 And Mikloth begat Shimeam. Also, they dwelt with their brethren in Jerusalem, near their brethren.

39 And Ner begat Kish. And Kish begat Saul. And Saul begat Jonathan and Malchishua and Abinadab and Esh-Baal.

40 And the son of Jonathan was Merib-Baal. And Merib-Baal begat Micah.

41 And the sons of Micah were Pithon and Melech and Tahrea.

42 And Ahaz begat Jarah. And Jarah begat Alemeth and Azmaveth and Zimri. And Zimri begat Moza.

43 And Moza begat Binea, whose son was Rephaiah. And his son was Eleasah. And his son was Azel.

44 And Azel had six sons, whose names are these: Azrikam, Bocheru, Ismael, Sheariah, Obadiah and Hanan. These are the sons of Azel.

10 Then the Philistines fought against Israel. And the men of Israel fled before the Philistines and fell down dead, on Mount Gilboa.

And the Philistines pursued after Saul, and after his sons. And the Philistines struck Jonathan and Abinadab and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.

And the battle was severe against Saul. And the archers hit him. And he was wounded by the archers.

Then Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw out your sword and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and mock me.” But his armor-bearer would not, for he was very afraid. Therefore, Saul took the sword and fell upon it.

And when his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell upon the sword and died.

So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his House. They died together.

And when all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw how they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities and fled away. And the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

And the next day, when the Philistines came to plunder those who had been killed, they found Saul and his sons lying on Mount Gilboa.

And after they had stripped him, they took his head and his armor and sent them into the land of the Philistines, all around, to proclaim it to their idols, and to the people.

10 And they laid up his armor in the house of their god and set up his head in the house of Dagon.

11 When all they of Jabesh Gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

12 they arose (all the valiant men) and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons and brought them to Jabesh and buried their bones under an oak in Jabesh and fasted for seven days.

13 So Saul died for his transgressions that he committed against the LORD, against the Word of the LORD, which he did not keep, and because he sought and asked counsel of a medium,

14 and did not ask of the LORD. Therefore, He killed him and turned the kingdom over to David, the son of Jesse.

Acts 27:21-44

21 But after a long abstinence from food, Paul stood in the midst of them, and said, “Sirs! You should have listened to me, and not have set sail from Crete, incurring this hurt and loss.

22 “But now, I admonish you to be of good courage! For there among you shall be no loss of anyone’s life, only of the ship.

23 “For the Angel of God (Whose I am, and Whom I serve) stood by me this night,

24 Saying, ‘Fear not, Paul! For you must be brought before Caesar! And lo, all who sail with you God has given to you freely.’

25 “Therefore, sirs, be of good courage! For I believe God, that it shall be as it has been told to me.

26 “However, we must be cast ashore on a certain island.”

27 And when the fourteenth night had come, as we were carried to and fro in the Adriatic (about midnight), the shipmen suspected that some country approached.

28 And they sounded and found it to be twenty fathoms. And when they had gone a little further, they sounded again, and found it to be fifteen fathoms.

29 Then, fearing they would have fallen into some rough places, they cast four anchors out of the stern, and wished for the day to come.

30 Now as the sailors were about to escape the ship, and had let down the skiff into the sea, under a pretense of casting anchors from the bow,

31 Paul said to the Centurion and the soldiers, “Unless these stay in the ship, you cannot be safe!”

32 Then the soldiers cut off the ropes of the skiff, and let it fall away.

33 And as the day dawned, Paul encouraged them all to eat, saying, “This is the fourteenth day that you have expectantly waited, and continued fasting, receiving nothing.

34 “Therefore I encourage you to eat! For this is for your safety. For not a hair shall fall from the head of any of you!”

35 And when he had said this, he took bread (and gave thanks to God in the presence of them all), and broke it, and began to eat.

36 Then they were all encouraged. And they also ate.

37 Now there were altogether two hundred seventy-six souls onboard the ship.

38 And when they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship and cast out the wheat into the sea.

39 And when it was day, they did not recognize the country. But they spied a certain creek with a bank, into which they intended (if possible) to thrust in the ship.

40 So when they had taken up the anchors, they committed to the sea, and released the rudder ropes, and hoisted up the mainsail to the wind, and drew to the shore.

41 And having fallen into a place where two seas met, they thrust in the ship. And the bow stuck fast, and could not be moved. But the stern was broken with the violence of the waves.

42 Then the soldiers planned to kill the prisoners, so that none of them could swim away and escape.

43 But the Centurion (wanting to save Paul) stopped them from carrying out this plan, and commanded that those who could swim should cast themselves into the sea first, and get to land

44 (as well as the others - some on boards, and some on certain pieces of the ship). And so it happened that they all were brought safely to land.

Psalm 8

O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is Your Name in all the world; Who has set Your Glory above the heavens!

Out of the mouth of children and infants You have ordained strength, because of Your enemies; that You might cease the enemy and the avenger.

When I behold Your heavens, the works of Your fingers; the moon and the stars which You have ordained,

what is man that You are mindful of him; and the son of man that You seek him?

For You have made him a little lower than God and crowned him with glory and worship.

You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands. You have put all things under his feet,

all sheep and oxen; indeed, and the beasts of the field,

the birds of the air and the fish of the sea; that which passes through the paths of the seas.

O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is Your Name in all the world! To him who excels upon Muth Labben: A Psalm of David.

Proverbs 18:23-24

23 The poor speak with supplication. But the rich answer roughly.

24 A man who has friends ought to show himself friendly. For a friend is nearer than a brother.
