Revised Geneva Translation (RGT)
Version
Nehemiah 9:22-10:39

22 “And You gave them kingdoms and people and scattered them into corners! So, they possessed the land of Sihon and the land of the king of Heshbon and the land of Og, king of Bashan!

23 “And You multiplied their children like the stars of the heaven and brought them into the land of which You had spoken to their fathers, so that they would go and possess it!

24 “So, the children went in and possessed the land! And You subdued the inhabitants of the land before them, the Canaanites, and gave them into their hands, with their kings and the people of the land, so that they might do with them what they would!

25 “And they took their strong cities and the fat land and possessed houses full of all goods, cisterns dug out, vineyards and olives and trees for food in abundance. And they ate and were filled and became fat and lived in pleasure through Your great goodness!

26 “Yet they were disobedient and rebelled against You and cast Your Law behind their backs and killed Your Prophets who protested among them to turn them to You! And they committed great blasphemies!

27 “Therefore, You delivered them into the hand of their enemies who troubled them! Still, in the time of their affliction, when they cried to You, You heard them from Heaven! And through Your great mercies, You gave them saviors, who saved them out of the hand of their adversaries!

28 “But when they had rest, they returned to do evil before You! Therefore, You left them in the hand of their enemies, so that they had dominion over them! Yet, when they returned and cried to You, You heard them from Heaven and delivered them according to Your great mercies, many times,

29 “and testified among them, so that You might bring them back to Your Law! But they behaved proudly and did not listen to Your Commandments, but sinned against Your Judgments (which a man should do and live in them) and pulled away the shoulder and were stiff-necked and would not hear!

30 “Yet, You put up with them for many years, and testified among them by Your Spirit, by the hand of Your Prophets, but they would not hear! Therefore, You gave them into the hand of the people of the lands!

31 “Yet, because of Your great mercies, You have not consumed them or forsaken them! For You are a gracious and merciful God!

32 “Now therefore our God, You, great God, mighty and terrible, Who keeps covenant and mercy, do not let all the affliction that has come to us seem little before You, to our kings, to our princes, to our priests, to our Prophets, to our fathers and to all Your people, since the time of the kings of Assyria until this day!

33 “Surely, You are just in all that has come upon us! For You have dealt truly, but we have done wickedly!

34 “And our kings and our princes, our priests and our fathers, have neither done Your Law nor regarded Your Commandments nor Your Testimonies with which You have testified among them!

35 “And they have not served You in their kingdom, and in Your great goodness that You showed to them, and in the large and fat land which You set before them and have not turned back from their evil works!

36 “Behold, we are servants this day! And the land that You gave to our fathers, to eat its fruit and its goodness, behold, we are servants in it!

37 “And it yields much fruit to the kings whom You have set over us, because of our sins! And they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle, at their pleasure! And we are in great affliction!

38 “Now because of all this, we make a sure covenant and write it! And our princes, our Levites and our priests seal it!”

10 Now those who sealed were Nehemiah the Tirshatha, the son of Hachaliah and Zidkijah,

Seraiah, Azariah, Jeremiah,

Pashur, Amariah, Malchijah,

Hattush, Shebaniah, Malluch,

Harim, Meremoth, Obadiah,

Daniel, Ginnethon, Baruch,

Meshullam, Abijah, Mijamin,

Maaziah, Bilgai and Shemaiah. These are the priests.

And the Levites were Jeshua, the son of Azaniah, Binnui, of the sons of Henadad and Kadmiel.

10 And their brethren were Shebaniah, Hodijah, Kelita, Pelaiah, Hanun,

11 Micha, Rehob, Hashabiah,

12 Zaccur, Sherebiah, Shebaniah,

13 Hodijah, Bani and Beninu.

14 The chief of the people were Parosh, Pahath-Moab, Elam, Zattu, Bani,

15 Bunni, Azgad, Bebai,

16 Adonijah, Bigvai, Adin,

17 Ater, Hezekiah, Azzur,

18 Hodijah, Hashum, Bezai,

19 Hariph, Anathoth, Nebai,

20 Magpiash, Meshullam, Hezir,

21 Meshezabeel, Zadok, Jaddua,

22 Pelatiah, Hanan, Anaiah,

23 Hoshea, Hananiah, Hashub,

24 Hallohesh, Pileha, Shobek,

25 Rehum, Hashabnah, Maaseiah,

26 And Ahijah, Hanan, Anan,

27 Malluch, Harim and Baanah.

28 And the rest of the people were the priests, the Levites, the gatekeepers, the singers, the Nethinim, and all who were separated from the people of the lands to the Law of God, their wives, their sons and their daughters, all who could understand.

29 The chief of them received it for their brethren. And they came to the curse and to the oath, to walk in God’s Law which was given by Moses, the servant of God, to observe and do all the Commandments of the LORD our God, and His Judgments and His Statutes,

30 and that we would neither give our daughters to the people of the land nor take their daughters for our sons,

31 and that if the people of the land brought wares or any grain to sell on the Sabbath, we would not take it from them on the Sabbath or on the holy days, and that we would let the seventh year be free, and the debts of every person.

32 And we made statutes for ourselves, to give one third of a shekel every year for the service of the House of our God,

33 for the Showbread and for the daily Offerings and for the daily Burnt Offerings, the Sabbaths, the new moons, for the solemn Feasts, and for the things that were sanctified, and for the Sin Offerings, to make an atonement for Israel, and for all the work of the House of our God.

34 We also cast lots for the offering of the wood — the priests, the Levites and the people — to bring it into the House of our God, according to the Houses of our fathers, each year at the times appointed, to burn it upon the Altar of the LORD our God, as it is written in the Law,

35 and to bring the firstfruits of our land, and the first of all the fruits of all trees, year by year, into the House of the LORD,

36 and the firstborn of our sons, and of our cattle, as it is written in the Law, and the firstborn of our bulls, and of our sheep, to bring it into the House of our God, to the priests who minister in the House of our God.

37 And that we should bring the firstfruit of our dough, and our offerings, and the fruit of every tree, of wine and of oil, to the priests, to the chambers of the House of our God, and the tithes of our land to the Levites, so that the Levites might have the tithes in all the cities of our work.

38 And the Priest, the son of Aaron, shall be with the Levites when the Levites take tithes. And the Levites shall bring up one tenth of the tithes to the House of our God, to the chambers of the treasure house.

39 For the children of Israel, and the children of Levi, shall bring up the offering of the grain, of the wine, and of the oil, to the chambers. And the vessels of the Sanctuary shall be there, and the priests who minister, and the gatekeepers, and the singers. And we will not forsake the House of our God.

1 Corinthians 9:19-10:13

19 For though I am free from all, yet have I made myself servant to all, that I may win the more.

20 And to the Jews, I become as a Jew, that I may win the Jews. To those who are under the Law, as though I were under the Law, that I may win those who are under the Law.

21 To those who are outside the Law, as though I were outside the Law, (being not without Law as pertaining to God, but in the Law through Christ) that I may win those who are outside the Law.

22 To the weak I become as weak, that I may win the weak. I have been made all things to all mankind, that I might by all means save some.

23 And this I do for the Gospel’s sake, that I might be a partaker thereof with you.

24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, yet one receives the prize? So, run that you may obtain it.

25 And everyone who contends is temperate in all things. And they do so to obtain a corruptible crown; but we for an incorruptible.

26 I, therefore, so run; not uncertainly. I so fight, and not as one who beats the air.

27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection. Lest by any means, after I have preached to others, I myself should be disqualified.

10 Moreover, brothers, I do not wish you to be unaware that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea,

and were all baptized unto Moses, in the cloud, and in the sea.

And all ate the same spiritual food.

And all drank the same spiritual drink (for they drank of the spiritual Rock that followed them. And the Rock was Christ.)

But with many of them God was not pleased. For they were overthrown in the wilderness.

Now these things are our examples, to the intent that we should not also lust after evil things as they lusted,

nor be idolaters, as some of them were. As it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.”

Nor let us commit fornication, as some of them committed fornication. And twenty-three thousand fell in one day.

Nor let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted Him, and were destroyed by serpents.

10 Nor murmur, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed by the destroyer.

11 Now all these things came to them for examples, and were written to admonish us, upon whom the ends of the world have come.

12 Therefore, let him who thinks he stands take heed, lest he fall.

13 No trial has overtaken you except what is common to man. And God is faithful, Who will not allow you to be tried above that which you are able, but will also give you a means of escape with the trial, that you may be able to bear it.

Psalm 34:1-10

34 I will always give thanks to the LORD. His praise shall be in my mouth continually.

My soul shall glory in the LORD. The humble shall hear it and be glad.

Praise the LORD with me; and let us magnify His Name together.

I sought the LORD, and He heard me. Indeed, He delivered me out of all my fear.

They shall look to Him and run; and their faces shall not be ashamed.

This poor man cried; and the LORD heard and saved him out of all his troubles.

The Angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him and delivers them.

Taste and see how gracious the LORD is. Blessed is the man who trusts in Him.

Fear the LORD, you, His saints. For those who fear Him lack nothing.

10 The lions lack and suffer hunger. But those who seek the LORD shall lack nothing that is good.

Proverbs 21:13

13 He who stops his ear at the crying of the poor shall also cry and not be heard.
