Always Forgive One Another From The Heart, As God Has Forgiven You
21 Then having come to Him, Peter said to Him, “Lord, how often[a] will my brother sin against me and I will forgive him? Up to seven-times?” 22 Jesus says to him, “I do not say to you up to seven-times, but up to seventy-times[b] [and][c] seven. 23 For this reason, the kingdom of the heavens became-like[d] a man who was a king, who wished to settle the account with his slaves. 24 And he having begun to settle it, one debtor of ten-thousand talents[e] was brought to him. 25 But he not having the means to pay, the master ordered that he be sold— and his wife and his children and all that he has— and that it be paid. 26 Then the slave, having fallen, was prostrating-himself before him, saying, ‘Be patient with me and I will pay everything to you’. 27 And having felt-deep feelings [of compassion], the master of that slave released him and forgave him the loan. 28 But having gone out, that slave found one of his fellow-slaves who owed him a hundred denarii. And having seized him, he was choking him, saying, ‘Pay me, since you are owing me something’. 29 Then his fellow slave, having fallen, was begging him, saying, ‘Be patient with me and I will pay it to you’. 30 And the one was not willing, but having gone, he threw him into prison until he should pay the amount being owed. 31 Then his fellow slaves, having seen the things having taken place, were extremely grieved. And having come, they made-clear to their master all the things having taken place. 32 Then, having summoned him, his master says to him, ‘Evil slave! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me. 33 Should not you also have had mercy on your fellow slave, as I also had mercy on you?’ 34 And having become angry[f], his master handed him over to the tormenters[g] until[h] which time he should pay all the amount being owed. 35 So also My heavenly Father will do to you if you do not forgive— each one his brother— from your hearts”.
The King Leaves Galilee For Judea. Large Crowds Follow Him And He Heals Them
19 And it came about that when Jesus finished[i] these words, He went-away from Galilee and came into the districts[j] of Judea, beyond the Jordan. 2 And large crowds followed Him, and He cured them there.
The Pharisees Test Jesus With a Question About Divorce. Divorce Is Not God’s Will
3 And Pharisees came to Him— testing Him, and saying, “Is it lawful for a man[k] to send-away[l] his wife for any reason[m]?” 4 And the One, having responded, said, “Did you not read [in Gen 1:27] that the One having created from the beginning[n] ‘made them male and female’? 5 And He said [in Gen 2:24], ‘For this reason[o] a man will leave-behind his father and his mother and will be joined[p] to his wife. And the two will be one flesh’. 6 So then, they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God paired-together[q], let a person[r] not separate”. 7 They say to Him, “Why then did Moses command us to give a certificate[s] of divorce and send her away?” 8 He says to them that “Moses permitted[t] you to send-away your wives because of your hardness-of-heart. But from the beginning it has not been so[u]. 9 And I say to you that whoever sends-away his wife not based on sexual-immorality, and marries another, is committing-adultery”.
The Disciples Conclude It Is Better Not To Marry. Jesus Says This Is Right For Some
10 His disciples say to Him, “If the case of the man with the wife is like this, it is not expedient[v] to marry!” 11 But the One said to them, “Not all give-way-to[w] this statement, but [only] ones to whom it has been given. 12 For there are eunuchs[x] who were born thus from a mother’s womb. And there are eunuchs who were made-eunuchs by people. And there are eunuchs who made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of the heavens. Let the one being able to give way, give way”.
