Judges 2:10-3:31

10 And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers; and there arose another generation after them who (A)did not know Yahweh or even the work which He had done for Israel.

Israel Serves Baals

11 Then the sons of Israel did (B)what was evil in the eyes of Yahweh and [a]served the (C)Baals, 12 and (D)they forsook Yahweh, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods from among the gods of the peoples who were around them and bowed themselves down to them; thus they provoked Yahweh to anger. 13 So they forsook Yahweh and (E)served Baal and the Ashtaroth. 14 (F)And the anger of Yahweh burned against Israel, and He gave them into the hands of plunderers who plundered them; and (G)He sold them into the hands of their enemies around them, so that they could no longer stand before their enemies. 15 Wherever they went, the hand of Yahweh was against them for evil, as Yahweh had spoken and (H)as Yahweh had sworn to them, so that they were severely distressed.

Yahweh Raises Up Judges

16 (I)Then Yahweh raised up judges [b]who saved them from the hands of those who plundered them. 17 Yet they did not listen to their judges either, for they played the harlot after other gods and bowed themselves down to them. They turned aside quickly from the way (J)in which their fathers had walked in obeying the commandments of Yahweh; they did not do as their fathers. 18 Now when Yahweh raised up judges for them, (K)Yahweh was with the judge and saved them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for Yahweh was (L)moved to pity by their groaning because of those who oppressed and suppressed them. 19 But it happened when the judge died, that they would turn back and act more corruptly than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them and bow down to them; they did not abandon their practices or their stubborn ways. 20 (M)So the anger of Yahweh burned against Israel, and He said, “Because this nation has trespassed against My covenant which I commanded their fathers and has not listened to My voice, 21 (N)I also will no longer dispossess before them any of the nations which Joshua left when he died, 22 in order to (O)test Israel by them, whether they will keep the way of Yahweh to walk in it as their fathers [c]did, or not.” 23 So Yahweh allowed those nations to rest, not dispossessing them quickly; and He did not give them into the hand of Joshua.

Yahweh Tests Israel

(P)Now these are the nations which Yahweh allowed to remain, to test Israel by them (that is, all who had not known any of the wars of Canaan; [d]however, God tested them in order that the generations of the sons of Israel would know war, by learning war, [e]especially those who had not known it formerly). These nations are: the five lords of the Philistines and all the Canaanites and the Sidonians and (Q)the Hivites who lived in Mount Lebanon, from Mount Baal-hermon as far as [f]Lebo-hamath. And they were for [g](R)testing Israel, to know if they would [h]obey the commandments of Yahweh, which He had commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses. (S)Now the sons of Israel lived among the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and (T)they took their daughters for themselves as wives and gave their own daughters to their sons and served their gods.

Yahweh Raises Up Othniel

Thus the sons of Israel did (U)what was evil in the eyes of Yahweh and (V)forgot Yahweh their God and (W)served the Baals and the [i]Asheroth. Then the anger of Yahweh burned against Israel, so that He sold them into the hands of Cushan-rishathaim king of [j]Mesopotamia; and the sons of Israel served Cushan-rishathaim eight years. Then the sons of Israel cried to Yahweh, and Yahweh raised up a savior for the sons of Israel to save them, (X)Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother. 10 (Y)And the Spirit of Yahweh came upon him, and he judged Israel. And he went out to war, and Yahweh gave Cushan-rishathaim king of [k]Mesopotamia into his hand. So his hand was strong against Cushan-rishathaim. 11 Then the land was quiet for forty years. And Othniel the son of Kenaz died.

12 Then the sons of Israel again (Z)did what was evil in the eyes of Yahweh. So (AA)Yahweh strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel because they had done what was evil in the eyes of Yahweh. 13 And he gathered to himself the sons of Ammon and Amalek; and he went and struck Israel, and they possessed (AB)the city of the palm trees. 14 So the sons of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years.

Yahweh Raises Up Ehud and Shamgar

15 Then the sons of Israel (AC)cried to Yahweh, and Yahweh raised up a savior for them, Ehud the son of Gera, the Benjamite, a left-handed man. And the sons of Israel sent tribute by his hand to Eglon the king of Moab. 16 And Ehud made himself a sword which had two edges, a [l]cubit in length, and he bound it on his right thigh under his cloak. 17 Then he brought the tribute near to Eglon king of Moab. Now Eglon was a very fat man. 18 And it happened when he had finished bringing the tribute near, that he sent away the people who had carried the tribute. 19 But he himself turned back from the graven images which were at Gilgal and said, “I have a secret message for you, O king.” And he said, “Keep silence.” And all who stood by him left him. 20 But Ehud came to him while he was sitting alone in his cool roof chamber. And Ehud said, “I have a message from God for you.” And he arose from his seat. 21 Then Ehud sent forth his left hand, took the sword from his right thigh, and thrust it into his belly. 22 The handle also went in after the blade, and the fat closed over the blade, for he did not draw the sword out of his belly; and the refuse came out. 23 Then Ehud went out into the vestibule and shut the doors of the roof chamber behind him and locked them.

24 Now he went out, and his servants came in and looked, and behold, the doors of the roof chamber were locked; and they said, “(AD)He is surely [m]relieving himself in the cool room.” 25 Then they waited until they were ashamed; but behold, he did not open the doors of the roof chamber. Therefore they took the key and opened them, and behold, their master had fallen to the [n]floor dead.

26 Now Ehud escaped while they were delaying, and he passed by the graven images and escaped to Seirah. 27 And it happened when he had arrived, that (AE)he blew the trumpet in the hill country of Ephraim; and the sons of Israel went down with him from the hill country, and he was in front of them. 28 Then he said to them, “Pursue them, for Yahweh has given your enemies the Moabites into your hands.” So they went down after him and captured (AF)the fords of the Jordan opposite Moab and did not allow anyone to cross. 29 And they struck down at that time about 10,000 Moabites, all robust and valiant men; and no one escaped. 30 So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. And the land was quiet for eighty years.

31 Now after him was (AG)Shamgar the son of Anath. And he struck down 600 Philistines with an oxgoad; and he also saved Israel.

Luke 22:14-34

The Lord’s Supper

14 (A)And when the hour had come, He reclined at the table, and (B)the apostles with Him. 15 And He said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; 16 for I say to you, I shall never again eat it (C)until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” 17 (D)And when He had taken a cup and (E)given thanks, He said, “Take this and share it among yourselves. 18 For (F)I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes.” 19 And when He had taken some bread and (G)given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of Me.” 20 And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup which is (H)poured out for you is the (I)new covenant in My blood. 21 (J)But behold, the hand of the one betraying Me is with Me on the table. 22 For indeed, the Son of Man is going (K)as it has been determined; but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed!” 23 And they began to argue among themselves which one of them it might be who was going to do this thing.

Who Is Greatest?

24 And there arose also (L)a dispute among them as to which one of them was regarded to be greatest. 25 (M)And He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them, and those who have authority over them are called ‘Benefactors.’ 26 But not so with you; (N)rather the one who is the greatest among you must become like (O)the youngest, and the leader like the servant. 27 For (P)who is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines? But (Q)I am among you as the one who serves.

28 “Now you are those who have stood by Me in My (R)trials, 29 and I grant you a (S)kingdom, just as My Father granted one to Me, 30 that you may (T)eat and drink at My table in My (U)kingdom, and (V)you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

31 “Simon, Simon, behold, (W)Satan has [a]demanded to (X)sift all of you like wheat. 32 But I (Y)have prayed earnestly for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, once you have returned, (Z)strengthen your brothers.” 33 (AA)But he said to Him, “Lord, with You I am ready to go both to prison and to death!” 34 And He said, “I say to you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you have denied three times that you know Me.”

Psalm 92-93

How Great Are Your Works, O Yahweh

A Psalm. A Song for the Sabbath day.

92 It is (A)good to give thanks to Yahweh
And to (B)sing praises to Your name, O Most High;
To (C)declare Your lovingkindness in the morning
And Your (D)faithfulness [a]by night,
[b]With the (E)ten-stringed lute and with the (F)harp,
[c]With resounding music [d]upon the (G)lyre.
For You, O Yahweh, have made me glad by [e]what You (H)have done,
I will (I)sing for joy at the (J)works of Your hands.

How (K)great are Your works, O Yahweh!
Your [f](L)thoughts are very (M)deep.
A (N)senseless man does not know,
And a (O)fool does not understand this:
That when the wicked (P)flourished like grass
And all (Q)the workers of iniquity blossomed,
It was only that they might be (R)destroyed forevermore.
But You are (S)on high forever, O Yahweh.
For, behold, Your enemies, O Yahweh,
For, behold, (T)Your enemies will perish;
All the workers of iniquity will be (U)scattered.

10 But You have raised up my (V)horn like that of the wild ox;
I have [g]been (W)anointed with fresh oil.
11 And my eye has (X)looked exultantly upon [h]my foes,
My ears hear of the evildoers who rise up against me.
12 The (Y)righteous man will [i]flourish like the palm tree,
He will grow like a (Z)cedar in Lebanon.
13 (AA)Planted in the house of Yahweh,
They will flourish (AB)in the courts of our God.
14 They will still [j](AC)yield fruit in old age;
They shall be [k]rich and fresh,
15 To [l]declare that (AD)Yahweh is upright;
He is my (AE)rock, and there is (AF)no unrighteousness in Him.

Yahweh Reigns Forevermore

93 (AG)Yahweh [m]reigns, He is (AH)clothed with majesty;
Yahweh has (AI)clothed and girded Himself with strength;
Indeed, the (AJ)world is established, it will not be shaken.
Your (AK)throne is established from of old;
You (AL)are from everlasting.

The (AM)rivers have lifted up, O Yahweh,
The rivers have lifted up their voice,
The rivers lift up their pounding waves.
More than the voices of many waters,
Than the mighty breakers of the sea,
Yahweh (AN)on high is mighty.
Your (AO)testimonies are very faithful;
(AP)Holiness befits Your house,
O Yahweh, [n]forevermore.

Proverbs 14:1-2

14 The [a](A)wise woman builds her house,
But the woman of folly tears it down with her own hands.
He who (B)walks in his uprightness fears Yahweh,
But he who is (C)devious in his ways despises Him.
