1 Chronicles 5:18-6:81

18 The sons of Reuben and the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh, consisting of men of valor, men who bore shield and sword and shot with bow and were learned in the ways of battle, were 44,760, who (A)went out for military duty. 19 They made war against (B)the Hagrites, (C)Jetur, Naphish, and Nodab. 20 They were helped against them, and the Hagrites and all who were with them were given into their hand; for (D)they cried out to God in the battle, and He was moved by their entreaty because (E)they trusted in Him. 21 They took captive their cattle: their 50,000 camels, 250,000 sheep, 2,000 donkeys; and 100,000 [a]men. 22 For many fell slain, because (F)the war was of God. And (G)they lived in their place until the (H)exile.

Sons of the Half-Tribe of Manasseh

23 Now the sons of the half-tribe of Manasseh lived in the land; from Bashan to Baal-hermon and (I)Senir and Mount Hermon they were numerous. 24 These were the heads of their fathers’ households, even Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah, and Jahdiel, mighty men of valor, men of renown, heads of their fathers’ households.

25 But they (J)acted unfaithfully against the God of their fathers and (K)played the harlot (L)after the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them. 26 So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of (M)Pul, king of Assyria, even the spirit of [b]Tilgath-pilneser, king of Assyria, and he (N)took them away into exile, namely the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, and brought them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and to the river of Gozan, to this day.

Sons of Levi

[c](O)The sons of Levi were [d]Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.
The children of Amram were Aaron, Moses, and Miriam.
And the sons of Aaron were Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.
Eleazar [e]became the father of Phinehas,
and Phinehas became the father of Abishua,
and Abishua became the father of Bukki,
and Bukki became the father of Uzzi,
and Uzzi became the father of Zerahiah,
and Zerahiah became the father of Meraioth,
Meraioth became the father of Amariah,
and Amariah became the father of Ahitub,
and (P)Ahitub became the father of Zadok,
and Zadok (Q)became the father of Ahimaaz,
and Ahimaaz became the father of Azariah,
and Azariah became the father of Johanan,
10 and Johanan became the father of Azariah ((R)it was he who ministered as the priest in the house (S)which Solomon built in Jerusalem),
11 and (T)Azariah became the father of Amariah,
and Amariah became the father of Ahitub,
12 and Ahitub became the father of Zadok,
and Zadok became the father of [f]Shallum,
13 and Shallum became the father of Hilkiah,
and Hilkiah became the father of Azariah,
14 and Azariah became the father of (U)Seraiah,
and Seraiah became the father of Jehozadak;
15 and Jehozadak went along when Yahweh took Judah and Jerusalem away into exile by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar.
16 [g](V)The sons of Levi were [h]Gershom, Kohath, and Merari.
17 These are the names of the sons of Gershom: Libni and Shimei.
18 The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron, and Uzziel.
19 The sons of (W)Merari were Mahli and Mushi.
And these are the families of the Levites according to their fathers’ households.
20 Of Gershom: Libni his son, Jahath his son, Zimmah his son,
21 Joah his son, Iddo his son, Zerah his son, Jeatherai his son.
22 The sons of Kohath were Amminadab his son, Korah his son, Assir his son,
23 Elkanah his son, Ebiasaph his son, and Assir his son,
24 Tahath his son, Uriel his son, Uzziah his son, and Shaul his son.
25 The sons of Elkanah were Amasai and Ahimoth.
26 As for Elkanah, the sons of Elkanah were Zophai his son and Nahath his son,
27 Eliab his son, Jeroham his son, Elkanah his son.
28 The sons of Samuel were (X)Joel the firstborn, and Abijah the second.
29 The sons of Merari were Mahli, Libni his son, Shimei his son, Uzzah his son,
30 Shimea his son, Haggiah his son, Asaiah his son.

31 (Y)Now these are those whom David caused to stand over the service of song in the house of Yahweh, (Z)after the ark rested there. 32 And they ministered with song before the tabernacle of the tent of meeting, until Solomon had built the house of Yahweh in Jerusalem; and they stood for their service according to their custom. 33 These are those who stood for service with their sons:

From the sons of the Kohathites were Heman the singer, the son of Joel, the son of Samuel,
34 the son of Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Eliel, the son of Toah,
35 the son of Zuph, the son of Elkanah, the son of Mahath, the son of Amasai,
36 the son of Elkanah, the son of Joel, the son of Azariah, the son of Zephaniah,
37 the son of Tahath, the son of Assir, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah,
38 the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi, the son of Israel.
39 Heman’s brother Asaph stood at his right hand, even Asaph the son of Berechiah, the son of Shimea,
40 the son of Michael, the son of Baaseiah, the son of Malchijah,
41 the son of Ethni, the son of Zerah, the son of Adaiah,
42 the son of Ethan, the son of Zimmah, the son of Shimei,
43 the son of Jahath, the son of Gershom, the son of Levi.
44 On the left hand were their [i]relatives the sons of Merari:
Ethan the son of Kishi, the son of Abdi, the son of Malluch,
45 the son of Hashabiah, the son of Amaziah, the son of Hilkiah,
46 the son of Amzi, the son of Bani, the son of Shemer,
47 the son of Mahli, the son of Mushi, the son of Merari, the son of Levi.

48 Their [j]relatives the Levites were given over unto all the service of the tabernacle of the house of God.

49 But Aaron and his sons (AA)offered offerings up in smoke on the altar of burnt offering and (AB)on the altar of incense, for all the work of the Holy of Holies, and (AC)to make atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded. 50 (AD)These are the sons of Aaron:

Eleazar his son, Phinehas his son, Abishua his son,
51 Bukki his son, Uzzi his son, Zerahiah his son,
52 Meraioth his son, Amariah his son, Ahitub his son,
53 Zadok his son, Ahimaaz his son.

54 Now these are their settlements according to their camps within their borders. To the sons of Aaron of the families of the Kohathites (for the (AE)lot was theirs first), 55 to them they gave (AF)Hebron in the land of Judah, with its pasture lands all around it; 56 (AG)but the fields of the city and its villages, they gave to Caleb the son of Jephunneh. 57 (AH)To the sons of Aaron they gave the following cities of refuge:

Hebron, Libnah also with its pasture lands, Jattir, Eshtemoa with its pasture lands,
58 [k]Hilen with its pasture lands, Debir with its pasture lands,
59 [l]Ashan with its pasture lands, and Beth-shemesh with its pasture lands;
60 from the tribe of Benjamin:
Geba with its pasture lands, [m]Allemeth with its pasture lands, and Anathoth with its pasture lands.
All their cities throughout their families were thirteen cities.
61 (AI)Now to the rest of the sons of Kohath were given by lot, from the family of the tribe, from the half-tribe, the half of Manasseh, ten cities.
62 And to the sons of Gershom, according to their families, were given from the tribe of Issachar and from the tribe of Asher, the tribe of Naphtali, and the tribe of Manasseh, thirteen cities in Bashan.
63 (AJ)To the sons of Merari were given by lot, according to their families, from the tribe of Reuben, the tribe of Gad, and the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities.

64 (AK)So the sons of Israel gave to the Levites the cities with their pasture lands. 65 They also gave by lot from the tribe of the sons of Judah, the tribe of the sons of Simeon, and the tribe of the sons of Benjamin, (AL)these cities which are mentioned here by name.

66 (AM)Now some of the families of the sons of Kohath had cities of their territory from the tribe of Ephraim. 67 And they gave to them the following cities of refuge:

Shechem, with its pasture lands, in the hill country of Ephraim, and Gezer with its pasture lands,
68 Jokmeam with its pasture lands, Beth-horon with its pasture lands,
69 Aijalon with its pasture lands, and Gath-rimmon with its pasture lands;
70 and from the half-tribe of Manasseh:
Aner with its pasture lands and Bileam with its pasture lands, for the family of the rest of the sons of Kohath.

71 To the sons of Gershom were given, from the family of the half-tribe of Manasseh:

Golan in Bashan with its pasture lands and Ashtaroth with its pasture lands;
72 and from the tribe of Issachar:
Kedesh with its pasture lands, Daberath with its pasture lands,
73 and Ramoth with its pasture lands, Anem with its pasture lands;
74 and from the tribe of Asher:
Mashal with its pasture lands, Abdon with its pasture lands,
75 Hukok with its pasture lands, and Rehob with its pasture lands;
76 and from the tribe of Naphtali:
Kedesh in Galilee with its pasture lands, Hammon with its pasture lands, and Kiriathaim with its pasture lands.

77 To the sons of Merari, the rest of the Levites, were given, from the tribe of Zebulun:

Rimmono with its pasture lands, Tabor with its pasture lands;
78 and beyond the Jordan at Jericho, on the east side of the Jordan, were given them, from the tribe of Reuben:
Bezer in the wilderness with its pasture lands, Jahzah with its pasture lands,
79 Kedemoth with its pasture lands, and Mephaath with its pasture lands;
80 and from the tribe of Gad:
Ramoth in Gilead with its pasture lands, Mahanaim with its pasture lands,
81 Heshbon with its pasture lands, and Jazer with its pasture lands.

Acts 26

26 (A)Now Agrippa said to Paul, “You are permitted to speak for yourself.” Then Paul, stretching out his hand, began to make his defense:

“Concerning all the things of which I am accused by the Jews, I regard myself blessed, King Agrippa, that I am about to make my defense before you today; [a]especially because you are an expert in all (B)customs and [b]questions among the Jews; therefore I beg you to listen to me patiently.

“So then, all Jews know (C)my manner of life from my youth, which from the beginning was spent among my own nation and at Jerusalem; since they have known about me for a long time, if they are willing to testify, that I lived as a (D)Pharisee (E)according to the strictest (F)sect of our religion. And now I am standing here being tried (G)for the hope of (H)the promise made by God to our fathers; the promise (I)to which our twelve tribes hope to attain, as they earnestly serve God night and day. And for this (J)hope, O King, I am being (K)accused by Jews. Why is it considered unbelievable among all of you (L)if God does raise the dead?

“So then, (M)I thought to myself that I had to do many things hostile to (N)the name of Jesus the Nazarene. 10 And this is [c]just what I (O)did in Jerusalem; not only did I lock up many of the [d]saints in prisons, having (P)received authority from the chief priests, but also when they were being put to death I (Q)cast my vote against them. 11 And (R)as I punished them often in all the synagogues, I tried to force them to blaspheme; and being (S)furiously enraged at them, I kept pursuing them (T)even to [e]foreign cities.

Paul Tells of His Conversion

12 [f]While so engaged (U)as I was journeying to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests, 13 at midday, O King, I saw on the way a light from heaven, [g]brighter than the sun, shining all around me and those who were journeying with me. 14 And when we had (V)all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me in the [h](W)Hebrew language, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me? [i]It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’ 15 And I said, ‘Who are You, Lord?’ And the Lord said, ‘I am Jesus whom you are persecuting. 16 But rise up and (X)stand on your feet; for this purpose I have appeared to you, to (Y)appoint you a (Z)servant and (AA)a witness not only to the things which you have [j]seen, but also to the things in which I will appear to you; 17 (AB)rescuing you (AC)from the Jewish people and from the Gentiles, to whom I am sending you, 18 to (AD)open their eyes so that they may turn from (AE)darkness to light and from the authority of (AF)Satan to God, that they may receive (AG)forgiveness of sins and an (AH)inheritance among those who have been sanctified by (AI)faith in Me.’

19 “So, King Agrippa, I did not prove disobedient to the heavenly vision, 20 but kept declaring both (AJ)to those of Damascus first, and also (AK)at Jerusalem and then throughout all the region of Judea, and even (AL)to the Gentiles, that they should (AM)repent and turn to God, practicing deeds (AN)appropriate to repentance. 21 For this reason some Jews (AO)seized me in the temple and were trying (AP)to put me to death. 22 Therefore, having obtained help from God to this day, I stand here (AQ)bearing witness both to small and great, stating nothing but what (AR)the Prophets and Moses said was going to take place; 23 [k](AS)that the [l]Christ was [m]to suffer, and [n]that (AT)as first of the resurrection from the dead, He was going to proclaim (AU)light both to the Jewish people and to the Gentiles.”

24 Now while [o]Paul was saying this in his defense, Festus *said in a loud voice, “Paul, you are out of your mind! [p]Great (AV)learning is driving you out of your mind.” 25 But Paul *said, “I am not out of my mind, (AW)most excellent Festus, but I utter words [q]of sober truth. 26 For the king [r](AX)knows about these matters, and I speak to him also with confidence, since I am persuaded that none of these things escape his notice; for this has not been done in a [s]corner. 27 King Agrippa, do you believe the Prophets? I know you believe.” 28 But Agrippa replied to Paul, “[t]In such short time [u]are you persuading me to become a (AY)Christian?” 29 And Paul said, “I would pray to God, that whether [v]in a short or long time, not only you, but also all who hear me this day, might become such as I am, except for these (AZ)chains.”

30 (BA)And the king stood up and the governor and Bernice, and those who were sitting with them, 31 and when they had gone aside, they began talking to one another, saying, “(BB)This man is not doing anything worthy of death or [w]imprisonment.” 32 And Agrippa said to Festus, “This man could have been (BC)set free if he had not (BD)appealed to Caesar.”

Psalm 6

Yahweh, Rescue My Soul

For the choir director. With stringed instruments. According to the [a]Sheminith. A Psalm of David.

O Yahweh, (A)do not reprove me in Your anger,
Nor discipline me in Your wrath.
Be gracious to me, O Yahweh, for I am (B)pining away;
(C)Heal me, O Yahweh, for (D)my bones are dismayed.
And my (E)soul is greatly dismayed;
But You, O Yahweh—(F)how long?

Return, O Yahweh, (G)rescue my [b]soul;
Save me because of Your lovingkindness.
For (H)there is no remembrance of You in death;
In Sheol who will give You thanks?

I am (I)weary with my sighing;
Every night I make my bed swim,
I flood my couch with (J)my tears.
My (K)eye has wasted away with grief;
It has become old because of all my adversaries.

(L)Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity,
For Yahweh (M)has heard the sound of my weeping.
Yahweh (N)has heard my supplication,
Yahweh (O)receives my prayer.
10 All my enemies will (P)be ashamed and greatly dismayed;
They shall [c]turn back, they will (Q)suddenly be ashamed.

Proverbs 18:20-21

20 From the [a](A)fruit of a man’s mouth his stomach will be satisfied;
(B)With the produce of his lips he will be satisfied.
21 (C)Death and life are in the [b]power of the tongue,
And those who love it will eat its (D)fruit.
