Version
1 Chronicles 12:19-14:17

19 (A)Now from Manasseh also some defected to David when he was about to go to battle with the Philistines against Saul. But they did not help them, for the lords of the Philistines after counsel sent him away, saying, “At the cost of our heads he may defect to his master Saul.” 20 As he went to Ziklag there defected to him from Manasseh: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael, Michael, Jozabad, Elihu and Zillethai, chiefs of thousands who belonged to Manasseh. 21 They helped David against (B)the marauding band, for they were all mighty men of valor, and were commanders in the army. 22 For day by day men came to David to help him, until there was a great camp (C)like the camp of God.

David’s Military Companies in Hebron

23 Now these are the numbers of the [a]companies equipped for military duty, (D)who came to David at Hebron, (E)to turn the kingdom of Saul to him, (F)according to the [b]command of Yahweh.

24 The sons of Judah who bore shield and spear were 6,800, equipped for military duty.
25 Of the sons of Simeon, mighty men of valor for military duty, 7,100.
26 Of the sons of Levi 4,600.
27 Now Jehoiada was the leader of the house of Aaron, and with him were 3,700,
28 also (G)Zadok, a young man mighty of valor, and of his father’s house 22 commanders.
29 Of the sons of Benjamin, (H)Saul’s relatives, 3,000; for until now (I)the greatest part of them had kept their allegiance to the house of Saul.
30 Of the sons of Ephraim 20,800, mighty men of valor, men [c]who had a name in their fathers’ households.
31 Of the half-tribe of Manasseh 18,000, who were designated by name to come and make David king.
32 Of the sons of Issachar, (J)men who knew how to discern the times, to know what Israel should do, their chiefs were two hundred; and all their relatives were at their command.
33 Of Zebulun, there were 50,000 who went out in the army, who could arrange themselves for battle with all kinds of weapons of war and helped David [d]with (K)an undivided heart.
34 Of Naphtali there were 1,000 commanders, and with them 37,000 with large shield and spear.
35 Of the Danites who could arrange themselves for battle, there were 28,600.
36 Of Asher there were 40,000 who went out in the army to arrange themselves for battle.
37 From the other side of the Jordan, of the Reubenites and the Gadites and of the half-tribe of Manasseh, there were 120,000 with all kinds of weapons for the army for battle.

38 All these, being men of war who could draw up in battle [e]lines, came to Hebron with (L)their whole heart to make David king over all Israel; and all the rest also of Israel were of one heart to make David king. 39 They were there with David three days, eating and drinking, for their relatives had prepared for them. 40 Moreover those who were near to them, even as far as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, (M)brought food on donkeys, camels, mules, and on oxen, great provisions of flour, fig cakes and bunches of raisins, wine, oil, oxen, and sheep. There was gladness indeed in Israel.

Uzza Dies from Touching the Ark

13 Then David took counsel with the commanders of the thousands and the hundreds, even with every leader. And David said to all the assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you, and if it is from Yahweh our God, let us send everywhere to our relatives who remain in all the lands of Israel, also to the priests and Levites who are with them in their cities with pasture lands, that they may gather with us; and let us bring back the ark of our God to us, (N)for we did not seek it in the days of Saul.” Then all the assembly said that they would do so, for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.

(O)So David assembled all Israel together, from the Shihor of Egypt even to [f]Lebo-hamath, (P)to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim. (Q)And David and all Israel went up to (R)Baalah, that is, to Kiriath-jearim, which belongs to Judah, to bring up from there the ark of God, Yahweh, (S)who is enthroned above the cherubim, where His name is called. And they drove the ark of God on a new cart from (T)the house of Abinadab, and Uzza and Ahio were leading the cart. Now David and all Israel were celebrating before God with all their strength, (U)even with songs and with lyres, harps, tambourines, cymbals, and with trumpets.

Then they came to (V)the threshing floor of Chidon. And Uzza reached out with his hand to take hold of the ark, because the oxen nearly upset it. 10 And the anger of Yahweh burned against Uzza, and He struck him down (W)because he reached out with his hand to the ark; (X)and he died there before God. 11 And David became angry because [g]of Yahweh’s breaking out against Uzza; and that place is called [h]Perez-uzza to this day. 12 So David was afraid of God that day, saying, “How can I bring the ark of God back to me?” 13 And David did not move the ark with him to the city of David, but took it aside (Y)to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite. 14 Thus the ark of God remained with the household of Obed-edom in his house three months; and (Z)Yahweh blessed the household of Obed-edom with all that he had.

David Takes More Wives

14 (AA)Then Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David with cedar trees and craftsmen of walls and craftsmen of wood, to build a house for him. Thus David knew that Yahweh had established him as king over Israel, and that his kingdom was lifted up, for the sake of His people Israel.

Then David took more wives at Jerusalem, and David [i]became the father of more sons and daughters. (AB)These are the names of the children [j]born to him in Jerusalem:

Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,
Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet,
Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia,
Elishama, Beeliada, and Eliphelet.

David Strikes Down the Philistines

Then the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king over all Israel, so all the Philistines went up to seek out David. And David heard of it and went out against them. Now the Philistines had come and (AC)made a raid in the valley of Rephaim. 10 Then David asked of God, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? And will You give them into my hand?” And Yahweh said to him, “Go up, for I will give them into your hand.” 11 So they came up to [k]Baal-perazim, and there David struck them down; and David said, “God has broken through my enemies by my hand, like the breakthrough of waters.” Therefore they named that place [l]Baal-perazim. 12 And they forsook their gods there; so David said the word, and they were burned with fire.

13 Then the Philistines (AD)yet again made a raid in the valley. 14 So David again asked of God, and God said to him, “You shall not go directly up after them; circle around from [m]behind them and come at them in front of the [n]balsam trees. 15 And it will be that when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the [o]balsam trees, then you shall go out to battle, for God will have gone out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.” 16 Then David did just as God had commanded him, and they struck down the camp of the Philistines from [p]Gibeon even as far as Gezer. 17 Then the name of David went out into all the lands; and (AE)Yahweh brought the dread of him on all the nations.

Romans 1:1-17

The Gospel Exalted

Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus, [a](A)called as an apostle, having been (B)set apart for (C)the gospel of God, which He (D)promised beforehand through His (E)prophets in the holy Scriptures, concerning His Son, who was born (F)of the seed of David (G)according to the flesh, who was designated as (H)the Son of God in power, according to the [b]Spirit of holiness, [c]by the resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, through whom we received grace and (I)apostleship for the (J)obedience of faith among (K)all the Gentiles for the sake of His name, among whom you also are the (L)called of Jesus Christ;

to all who are (M)beloved of God in Rome, called as [d](N)saints: (O)Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

First, (P)I thank my God through Jesus Christ [e]for you all, because (Q)your faith is being proclaimed throughout the whole world. For (R)God, whom I (S)serve in my spirit in the gospel of His Son, is my witness as to how without ceasing (T)I make mention of you, 10 always in my prayers earnestly asking, if perhaps now at last by (U)the will of God I may succeed in coming to you. 11 For (V)I long to see you so that I may impart some spiritual gift to you, that you may be strengthened; 12 that is, to be mutually encouraged, while among you, by each other’s faith, both yours and mine. 13 (W)I do not want you to be unaware, (X)brothers, that often I (Y)have planned to come to you (and have been prevented so far) so that I may have some (Z)fruit among you also, even as among the rest of the Gentiles. 14 (AA)I am [f]under obligation both to Greeks and to (AB)barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish. 15 In this way, for my part, I am eager to (AC)proclaim the gospel to you also who are in Rome.

16 For I am not (AD)ashamed of the gospel, for (AE)it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the (AF)Jew first and also to (AG)the Greek. 17 For in it (AH)the righteousness of God is revealed [g]from faith to faith; as it is written, “[h](AI)But the righteous will live by faith.”

Psalm 9:13-20

Heth

13 Be gracious to me, O Yahweh;
See my affliction from those (A)who hate me,
You who (B)lift me up from the gates of death,
14 That I may recount (C)all Your praises,
That in the gates of the daughter of Zion
I may (D)rejoice in Your [a]salvation.

Teth

15 The nations have sunk down (E)in the pit which they have made;
In the (F)net which they hid, their own foot has been caught.
16 Yahweh has (G)made Himself known;
He has (H)executed judgment.
In the work of his own hands the wicked is snared. [b]Higgaion [c]Selah.

Yodh

17 The wicked will [d](I)return to Sheol,
Even all the nations who (J)forget God.

Kaph

18 For the (K)needy will not always be forgotten,
Nor the (L)hope of the afflicted perish forever.
19 (M)Arise, O Yahweh, do not let man prevail;
Let the nations be (N)judged before You.
20 Put them (O)in fear, O Yahweh;
Let the nations know that they are (P)but men. Selah.

Proverbs 19:4-5

(A)Wealth adds many friends,
But a poor man is separated from his friend.
A [a](B)false witness will not go unpunished,
And he who (C)breathes out lies will not escape.
