Version
Isaiah 30:12-33:9

12 Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel,

(A)Since you have rejected this word
And have put your trust in (B)oppression and deviousness and have relied on them,
13 Therefore this (C)iniquity will be to you
Like a (D)breach about to fall,
A bulge in a high wall,
Whose breaking comes (E)suddenly in an instant,
14 Whose breaking is like the breaking of a (F)potter’s jar,
[a]So ruthlessly shattered
That a potsherd will not be found among its pieces
To [b]take fire from a hearth
Or to scoop water from a cistern.”

15 For thus Lord Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel, has said,

“In [c]repentance and (G)rest you will be saved,
In (H)quietness and trust is your might.”
But you were not willing,
16 And you said, “No, for we will flee on (I)horses,”
Therefore you shall flee!
“And we will ride on swift horses,”
Therefore those who pursue you shall be swift.
17 (J)One thousand will flee at the threat of one man;
You will flee at the threat of five,
Until you are left as a [d]flag on a mountain top
And as a [e]standard on a hill.

Yahweh Is Gracious and Just

18 Therefore Yahweh (K)waits with longing to be gracious to you,
And therefore He is on (L)high to have compassion on you.
For Yahweh is a (M)God of justice;
How blessed are all those who (N)wait for Him.

19 [f]O people in Zion, (O)inhabitant in Jerusalem, you will (P)weep no longer. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when He hears it, He will (Q)answer you. 20 The Lord has given you (R)bread of distress and water of oppression; He, your Teacher will no longer (S)hide Himself, but your eyes will see your Teacher. 21 And your ears will hear a word behind you, “[g]This is the (T)way, walk in it,” whenever you (U)turn to the right or to the left. 22 And you will defile your graven (V)images overlaid with your silver, and your molten (W)images plated with your gold. You will scatter them as an impure thing and say to [h]them, “(X)Be gone!”

23 Then He will (Y)give you rain for [i]the seed which you will sow in the ground, and bread from the produce of the ground, and it will be [j]rich and fat; on that day (Z)your livestock will graze in a roomy pasture. 24 Also the oxen and the donkeys which work the ground will eat salted fodder, which [k]has been (AA)winnowed with shovel and fork. 25 And it will be that on every lofty mountain and on (AB)every lifted up hill there will be [l]streams running with water on the day of the great (AC)slaughter, when the towers fall. 26 (AD)And the light of the moon will be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun will be seven times brighter, like the light of seven days, on the day (AE)Yahweh binds up the (AF)fracture of His people and (AG)heals the bruise [m]He has inflicted.

27 Behold, (AH)the name of Yahweh comes from afar;
(AI)Burning is His anger and heavy is His [n]smoke;
His lips are filled with (AJ)indignation
And His tongue is like a (AK)consuming fire;
28 His (AL)breath is like an overflowing torrent,
Which (AM)reaches to the neck,
To (AN)shake the nations back and forth in a [o]sieve of worthlessness,
And to put in the jaws of the peoples (AO)the bridle which staggers one to ruin.
29 You will have [p]songs as in the night when you set yourself apart as holy for the festival,
And gladness of heart as when one marches to the sound of the flute,
To go to the mountain of Yahweh, to the Rock of Israel.
30 And Yahweh will cause [q]His splendid voice to be heard,
And the [r]descending of His arm to be seen in raging anger,
And in the flame of a consuming fire
In cloudburst, downpour, and hailstones.
31 For (AP)at the voice of Yahweh (AQ)Assyria will be dismayed,
When He strikes with the (AR)rod.
32 And every [s]blow of the [t](AS)appointed staff,
Which Yahweh will cause to rest upon him,
Will be with the music of (AT)tambourines and lyres;
And in battles, (AU)waving weapons He will fight them.
33 For [u](AV)Topheth has long been ready,
Indeed, it has been prepared for the king.
He has made it deep and large,
[v]A pyre of fire with plenty of wood;
The (AW)breath of Yahweh, like a torrent of (AX)brimstone, sets it afire.

Woe to Those Who Go down to Egypt

31 Woe to those who go down to (AY)Egypt for help
And (AZ)rely on horses,
And trust in chariots because they are many
And in horsemen because they are very mighty,
But they do not have (BA)regard for the (BB)Holy One of Israel, nor seek Yahweh!
Yet He also is (BC)wise and will (BD)bring about an evil demise
And does (BE)not turn His words aside,
But will arise against the house of (BF)evildoers
And against the help of the (BG)workers of iniquity.
Now the Egyptians are (BH)men and not God,
And their (BI)horses are flesh and not spirit;
So Yahweh will (BJ)stretch out His hand,
And (BK)he who helps will stumble,
And he who is helped will fall,
And all of them will come to an end together.

For thus says Yahweh to me,

“As the (BL)lion or the young lion growls over its prey,
Against which a multitude of shepherds is called out,
And it will not be dismayed at their voice nor afflicted at their noise,
So will Yahweh of hosts come down to wage (BM)war on Mount Zion and on its hill.”
Like [w]flying (BN)birds so Yahweh of hosts will defend Jerusalem.
He will (BO)defend and deliver it;
He will pass over and provide a way of escape.

(BP)Return to Him against whom [x]you have (BQ)deeply rebelled, O sons of Israel. For in that day every man will (BR)reject his silver idols and his gold idols, which your (BS)hands have made for you as (BT)a sin.

And the (BU)Assyrian will fall by a sword not of man,
And a (BV)sword not of man will devour him.
So he will [y](BW)flee from the sword,
And his choice men will become (BX)forced laborers.
“His (BY)rock will pass away because of terror,
And his princes will be dismayed at the (BZ)standard,”
Declares Yahweh, whose (CA)fire is in Zion and whose furnace is in Jerusalem.

A King Will Reign Righteously

32 Behold, a (CB)king will reign righteously
And princes will rule justly.
Each will be like a (CC)refuge from the wind
And a shelter from the storm,
Like [z](CD)streams of water in a dry country,
Like the (CE)shade of a [aa]huge rock in [ab]a weary land.
Then (CF)the eyes of those who see will not be [ac]blinded,
And the ears of those who hear will pay attention.
And the heart of the (CG)hasty will discern knowledge,
And the tongue of the stammerers will hasten to speak clearly.
No longer will the (CH)wicked fool be called noble,
Or the rogue be spoken of as generous.
For a wicked fool speaks wicked folly,
And his heart (CI)does wickedness:
To do (CJ)ungodliness and to speak error against Yahweh,
In order to (CK)make the hungry person empty;
He even causes the thirsty to lack a drink.
As for a rogue, his weapons are evil;
He (CL)counsels wicked schemes
To (CM)wreak destruction on the afflicted with lying words,
(CN)Even though the needy one speaks justly.
But (CO)the noble man counsels noble plans;
And by noble plans he rises up.

Rise up, you (CP)women who are at ease,
And hear my voice;
(CQ)Give ear to my word,
You complacent daughters.
10 Within a year and a few days
You will quake, O complacent daughters;
(CR)For the grape harvest is ended,
And the fruit gathering will not come.
11 Tremble, you women who are at ease;
(CS)Quake, you complacent daughters;
(CT)Strip, undress, and put sackcloth on your waist,
12 (CU)Beat your breasts for the desirable fields, for the fruitful vine,
13 (CV)For the land of my people in which thorns and briars shall come up,
Indeed, against all the joyful houses and the (CW)exultant city.
14 Because (CX)the palace has been abandoned, the [ad]populated (CY)city forsaken.
[ae]Hill and watchtower have become (CZ)caves forever,
A joy for (DA)wild donkeys, a pasture for flocks,
15 Until the (DB)Spirit is poured out upon us from on high,
And the wilderness becomes a (DC)fruitful orchard,
And the fruitful orchard is counted as a forest.
16 Then (DD)justice will dwell in the wilderness,
And righteousness will live in the fruitful orchard.
17 And the (DE)work of righteousness will be peace,
And the service of righteousness, (DF)quietness and security forever.
18 Then my people will live in a (DG)peaceful abode,
And in secure dwellings and in undisturbed (DH)resting places;
19 And it will (DI)hail when the (DJ)forest comes down,
And (DK)the city will be utterly laid low.
20 How (DL)blessed will you be, you who sow beside all waters,
Who [af]let out freely the ox and the donkey.

The King in His Beauty

33 Woe (DM)to you, O destroyer,
While you were not destroyed;
And he (DN)who is treacherous, while others did not deal treacherously with him.
As soon as you finish destroying, (DO)you will be destroyed;
As soon as you cease to deal treacherously, others will (DP)deal treacherously with you.
O Yahweh, (DQ)be gracious to us; we have (DR)hoped in You.
Be [ag]their [ah](DS)strength every morning,
Our salvation also in the (DT)time of distress.
At the sound of the tumult (DU)peoples flee;
At the (DV)lifting up of Yourself nations scatter.
Your spoil is gathered as the caterpillar gathers;
As locusts rushing about men rush about on it.
Yahweh is (DW)exalted, for He dwells on high;
He has (DX)filled Zion with justice and righteousness.
And He will be the [ai](DY)stability of your times,
A (DZ)wealth of salvation, wisdom, and (EA)knowledge;
The (EB)fear of Yahweh is his treasure.
Behold, their brave men cry in [aj]the streets;
The (EC)messengers of peace weep bitterly.
The highways are desolate, [ak]the (ED)traveler has ceased;
He has (EE)broken the covenant, he has rejected the cities;
He has no regard for man.
(EF)The land mourns and languishes,
(EG)Lebanon is humiliated and withers;
(EH)Sharon is like a desert plain,
And Bashan and Carmel [al]lose their foliage.

Galatians 5:1-12

Christ Set Us Free

[a](A)It was for freedom that Christ set us free. Therefore, (B)stand firm and do not be subject again to a (C)yoke of slavery.

Behold I, (D)Paul, say to you that if you receive (E)circumcision, Christ will be of no benefit to you. And I (F)testify again to every man who receives (G)circumcision, that he is under obligation to (H)keep the whole Law. You have been [b]severed from Christ, you who are being justified by law; you have (I)fallen from grace! For we [c]through the Spirit, [d]by faith, are (J)eagerly waiting for the hope of righteousness. For in (K)Christ Jesus (L)neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything, but (M)faith working through love.

You were (N)running well; who hindered you from [e]obeying the truth? This persuasion is not from (O)Him who calls you. (P)A little leaven leavens the whole lump. 10 (Q)I have confidence [f]in you in the Lord that you (R)will adopt no other view. But the one who is (S)disturbing you will bear his judgment, whoever he is. 11 But I, brothers, if I still preach circumcision, why am I still (T)persecuted? Then (U)the stumbling block of the cross would have been abolished. 12 I wish that (V)those who are upsetting you would even [g](W)mutilate themselves.

Psalm 63

My Soul Thirsts for You

A Psalm of David. [a]When he was in the wilderness of Judah.

63 O God, (A)You are my God; I shall seek You [b]earnestly;
My soul (B)thirsts for You, my flesh [c]yearns for You,
In a (C)dry and weary land without water.
Thus I have (D)beheld You in the sanctuary,
To see Your power and Your glory.
Because Your (E)lovingkindness is better than life,
My lips will laud You.
Thus I will bless You (F)as long as I live;
I will (G)lift up my hands in Your name.
My soul is (H)satisfied as with fatness and richness,
And my mouth offers (I)praises with lips of joyful songs.

When I remember You (J)on my bed,
I meditate on You in the (K)night watches,
For (L)You have been my help,
And in the (M)shadow of Your wings I sing for joy.
My soul (N)clings [d]to You;
Your (O)right hand upholds me.

But those who (P)seek my [e]life to destroy it,
Will go into the [f](Q)depths of the earth.
10 [g]They will be (R)delivered over to the power of the sword;
They will be a (S)portion for foxes.
11 But the (T)king will be glad in God;
Everyone who (U)swears by Him will boast,
For the (V)mouths of those who speak lies will be closed.

Proverbs 23:22

22 (A)Listen to your father who begot you,
And (B)do not despise your mother when she is old.
