The default Bible (currently the NIV) is chosen based on popularity. The NIV is a widely-used and accepted English Bible, so we have set it as the default Bible.

If you change the language Bible Gateway is presented in to Spanish, you will find that the default Bible is the RVR1960. This is also considered one of the most widely-used and accepted Bibles in Spanish and we have set it as the default for our Spanish speaking audience.

You can, however, change the default Bible at any time by going to the Preferences page and selecting a different Bible to be your default.
