The king gave orders; and they quarried large stones, expensive stones, to lay the foundation of the house with cut stone.

By order of the king, fine, large blocks of stone were quarried to give the house a foundation of hewn stone.
OJB
And HaMelech commanded, and avanim gedolot (great stones) they quarried, costly stones, to lay the foundation of the Bayit with hewn stones.
TLV
Then the king commanded, and they quarried great stones, costly stones, to lay the foundation of the House with cut stones.
